Calm down there Master Blaster - ya perhaps way off topic. The chat earlier was about Ron McLean and someone mentioned him throwing Cherry under the bus.

You definitely sound like someone who doesn't care.

Actually I rescind my previous comment. GNR is fine, I just hate Axl Rose. What a dick that guy is. Slash is cool.

Just thought I'd throw this out there as I'm watching the TO/Montreal game but I wish that Sportsnet would get rid of Kyle Bukauskas. I hate that guy so much. I get the sense that he is trying to be a replacement for Ron MacLean.

You might want to re-evaluate how you spend your energy. Hate is inverted love. It takes the same amount of effort only wastes it on displeasure.

I don't get that sense and usually enjoy his reporting. It's neat to see a SAIT graduate having the early success he has had.

What’s wrong with him? I always feel like the guy from MAD magazine is talking to me when he’s on.

Alfred E Neuman?

I used to love mad! Spy vs spy, bad movie parodies, weird jokes, and of course, the fold in back cover.

If the Edmonton station with the Oilers games changed to an all-comedy format nobody would notice.

Strange how these decisions get made. Bell fires Natasha S who in my view was very strong and yet they keep Kayla Grey who is considerably weaker.

There are a lot of factors that go into layoff decisions. Job performance is just of them.

Dookie is already one of the best albums of all time, imagine it with that monster anthem as well?
They are about as punk as nickelback is metal. Like them but no.

I would guess because it's tv. Its age and pay. Also I'm * speculating * there's a couple of other reasons.

I'm surprised they're not unionized where the decision would be based solely on seniority, especially the behind-the-scenes people.

Nah, I'm legit on this one. What about them makes them not punk? Their origins are punk. Their themes are punk. That they got big doesn't make them not punk. That they were one of the bands that paved the way for pop-punk doesn't mean they were.

Well they aren't anti corporate, they aren't really nihilist, they aren't Anti- gentrification ,they are not anti mainstream and mass corporate values based on there label signings and the fact they have always been concerned with their fashion. They weren't really pro or anti anything really. Nimrod had a few tones of political awareness but only slightly. They had no punk ideologies basically in there first 6 albums.

Yes, roots maybe. They were never real punk . They are what popular culture promotes and shows what punk is . Its pop punk in the sense of what's popular culture for punk. It's a imitation that's promotable to the public. Untill green days warning they didn't even become political in ways that remotely lined with punk ideologies. The group admits this in a few interviews. Their time on DIY 924 Gilman Street club was just about marketing the right way. Tre cool once said " It was easy to gain popularity just take a picture of Ronald Reagan and cut his head off and replace it with a tank" They didn't ever line up with the ideology of punk to begin with they literally used every anti punk thing to gain fame. They used everything out of a capitalist system to their advantage as well as tried to keep up with fashions and trends to keep a image. Hence punk -pop. They were the first in a crop of punk pop. Easy to market a popular concept of punk with the likes of green day ,good charollette, sum 41. That's just kids being kids . You look at bands like misfits, dead Kennedys , black flag, minor threat etc.. were harder to promote du to the messages they were putting out. This bands actually
had had many sources trying to get them censored. You can say well these bands arent punk because they are main stream now. Which is true but they already had strong political leanings and meanings in their songs and became popular with indie companys with like minded people searching them out. Green day was with a indie record ( look out ) in 1991 with kerplunk which was basically a super close version of dookie and it was selling well but went reprise to further mainstream there band. The label wanted more songs that could be marketable and more relatable so the group developed more angsty songs over political and cultural hard hitting issues .

Like I said until greenday released warnings they didn't come close to actual punk ideologies. They were just very early 20s kids whining and angsty. Early greenday can be More liken to bands like fall out boy ,my chemical romance and panic at the disco. In 2003 when they recorded American idiot there music finally caught up to mute punk ideologies but at that point it became mute.

Compare the songs contents Dead Kennedys were putting out at age 22 and what greenday put out with dookie( age 22) the content of songs are night and day.
