Yen in Winnipeg and Hamilton also shutting down. I assume the jets broadcasts will stay on that station, but who knows.

They didn't have the Jets broadcasts. They moved to CJOB this season.

I never heard that was a put off . I always heard the off put was he wasn't a hockey first guy. He was an meh interviewer from MTV.

CHL said it right. Marek is quirky, but he's a great host with tons of facets to his character, and is also a hockey guy. Duthie, same deal.

Why is this a Strombo discussion anyway? Guys (and gal) who were great and talented got turfed because of corporate greed.
This 100% from any one I talked too. This isn't MTV . This wasnt a strong area for him .

thanks, i looked into this today and came to revise my post.

really hard to be an all sports station in Winnipeg when you do not have the broadcast rights to at least one of the bombers or jets.

I have a Paul Kruse hockey card, and it’s the strangest place to see a flaming 12.

I was a casual watcher of the show, but I don't seem to remember him being out of his depth at all regarding hockey talk. He got his start in radio on a sports channel and he knew his stuff.

I feel like the idea of him being "MTV/hipster" was predetermined by the general audience based on what little they knew about him as opposed to what he knew about hockey.

He looked different than the old time hockey people and at times approached things a little differently which the hockey world wasn't ready for.

I think he'd fair better if he were to do it again today. For all the talk I heard about his hair, now you have guys like Bieksa with crazier hair and much more charisma and attitude breaking into the business. Once you have a hockeys guy presenting that image, I think it would open the door for outsiders like Strombo to be more accepted.

From what I remember the biggest issue with him hosting the panel was that he seemed lost and unable to direct the hockey discussion or ask the panel appropriate questions to dig into topics and get the knowledge and insight out of the panel members. He seemed out of his element. When it came to his previous experience as a host interviewing celebrities and other folks he was much more natural and was able to drive the conversation.

Ron Maclean is, IMO, a "hockey guy" who doesn't actually know much about hockey. I mean, he knows history, and researches trivia about small town hockey stuff, but he doesn't moderate an analysis session well at all.

Ron Maclean is plugged in - he knows people.

But he has no particular hockey insights

Just remember, Ron thought the Oilers would win a couple cups by now with McJesus, if you ever want to assess his track record.

Didn't he make that comment during the Hall rebuild?

Both times, he's been prophesizing Oiler's success for 10-15 years now.

I had to look up the song. I may be getting forgetful in my advancing years but I didn't realize that was the title of the song.
