If PLD doesn't get 8 points tonight, this trade will have been a disaster.
Quote:
Too pumped for Dubois' debut.... Love that he is wearing my old hockey number 13!! Here’s hoping he gets a lot more goals with that jersey number than I did (my playing style was closer to Brandon Tanev, (skate fast, hit anything that moves, and good defensively) though obviously no where near NHL talent)
Quote:
I will accept nothing less than a hat trick and/or 5 total points from the one they call PLD. One fleur-de-lis for each goal.
Quote:
As long as PLD doesn't get benched halfway though the second period, we won this trade forever.
Am I doing this right?
Seriously... I'm just happy to finally see the new direction of the team.. I'll be ok even if things don't go our way tonight. Half of the new line combos are feeling it out, could be a little disjointed
Quote:
Torts is a dick but he's a consistent dick and it makes sense that the attitude that led Laine to demand a trade from Winnipeg would get him benched in Columbus. Torts talks about protecting the team culture and the standard of excellence and that's absolutely his job regardless what you think of his methods. Laine could easily have been benched often in Winnipeg and there were times I wished he was because he was such a liability ("You gotta move, kid!").

Jets win 7-2, PLD makes his entrance by dropping from the rafters, cracks a chair over Tkachuk's caveman dome sending his mouthguard flying, then feeds Connor 3 apples.
The Richard III Preview
Quote:
Slouch’d and issuing forth from Calgary’s swollen maw, they wait:
The flaming wankers of our discontent
Imbued with roster’d trinkets as the sons-of-Treliving;
Prior games, all the Flames that lower'd upon our house
In the deep bosom of the several losses buried.
While Jets’ players pool is now replete with a fresh aquisition;
PLD’s arms raised up for monuments;
The trade’s stern alarms shall change to merry celebration,
The dreadful waiting to delightful measure.
Grim-visaged wars hath smooth'd the Jets’ wrinkled front;
And again we reflect back on Fire-dousing deeds,
To fright the souls of those distant Flames,
And our forwards caper nimbly, in the Saddledome’s chambers
To the lascivious cacophony of a clanking crossbar tune.
But we, that are not shaped for Cinderella’d tricks,
The Jetsfolk clan are but rudely stamp'd,
Aye, and yet seek a 4th game majesty,
To set before a wanton, ambling Beyak.

The PLD highlight video I watched today had him scoring 3 goals on Calgary. Coincidence? I think not

It's a bad game and not a bad game. Schroedinger’s hockey game, where the Jets are getting a bit shelled and also shelling Calgary on some shifts. Weird one! Calgary probably has the slot chance edge so far but it’s not like WPG isn’t creating at all. Just all feels a bit stiff and sloppy. D passing needs to improve.

Looking back at the game recaps and checking the stats, I felt like I watched a different game. I’m so used to the Flames snatching defeat from the jaws of victory that I could have sworn the Jets were actually controlling the play.
But that was a pretty good effort and hopefully I don’t have to feel this way anymore. Even if the skaters decide to throw games away, Markstrom can seemingly bail them out of anything. He was great again tonight.
Would like to see a little more explosiveness in the offense, put these games away early, but 2 points is 2 points!

In the interview with Bennett after the Oilers game he sounded like he is really looking forward to the chance to stay on the top line. That doesn’t sound like someone who really cant wait to get out of town and move on. I think he only ever wanted a good chance and extended look with guys like Gaudreau and Monahan, to try and prove he belongs there. To be able to just relax and concentrate on playing his game without the threat of being demoted if he makes a bad play or has an off game, will hopefully make a huge difference for him and just maybe he can finally put it all together. Obviously, he would love for his career to really take off...but I really believe he would also love for it to happen as a Flame.

I think so too. I am sure after playing for the Flames so long, he thinks of it as 'his' team after all. Aside from that, I remember at the draft, they showed him talking to his family and his grandmother said: "And it was the right team!" - it seemed like Bennett was hoping that he would land on the Flames at the draft anyway.

Just want to put in a word of caution. Froese had a good game but he has 17 career points and hasn't been in the league in three years.
Ryan's past four seasons have seen him score 29 (in 69 games), 38, 38, and 29 (in 67).
There's a much more substantial body of work showing Ryan as being a very effective third-line centre. Froese probably isn't a consistent NHLer. Things can obviously change—just look at Ryan as an example—but I'm not optimistic.
I hear u
Just not a fan of Ryan’s game anymore. On our current team, Ryan is our 4th line centre and his game declined last year... I much prefer to add physical tough mofos on our 4 th who can forecheck and cycle the puck down low

Bennett doesn’t seem like the type of guy who quits on his team. If (and that is an absolutely massive if) he finds some sustained chemistry on the 1st line I could absolutely see him staying here.
Who knows, maybe that’s the Flames hopes? “Change of scenery” could be interpreted as a move up the lineup too. This could be them giving him one last chance before they move him. I don’t buy the showcasing argument, teams don’t really do that and most scouts don’t base their assessment of a player based on a few games before a trade (not that you or anyone else was arguing that they’re showcasing him, I’m just saying).
I’ve liked Bennett on that line so far but he’s going to have to be consistent in that role if he wants to stay there. It’s all on Bennett now.

Yeah, the simplest answer is the most likely. Idiotte called the agent to ask about the situation. He got an answer essentially that if the current situation at the time was what his client had to work with, yes, he would he open to a change of scene.
Don’t kid yourself, that does mean a change of team, but I suspect you are right that an actual sustained opportunity with skilled Flames linemates would be a factor
It’s really not that complicated. “A sustained look in the playoffs pays off. If you can’t give me a sustained look in the regular season based on that, then yeah, I need to look after myself”
He drew a penalty early and had a few scoring chances. I could see 13 and 23 adjusting to work with the attributes he brings for an overall net positive
I don’t buy the showcasing story, I more buy the scratch as a ‘reel your agent in, you don’t show up the team’ kind of message. Tre is a ECHLer, no?
The team I expect will see this through, would have preferred to save face, but sometimes you have to call them out.
Whatever.
Markstrom is awesome
Mang is finding his touch
Coincidentally Backs has sure returned
Great 60 by the team

Bennett was noticeable in a very tight game. WPG plays a disciplined 1-2-2 so they pack it in and give no space. The fact that Bennett was able to get inside and attack the net was amazing. When his confidence grows the puck won't roll of his stick rather he will finish that net drive.
He was really good again tonight. He's powerful, heavy and explosive. He was decisive and a workhorse. He played how you need to against that team. Just a great performance.

Great effort for a nice win! Nice to see the team hold on for the win.
Shoutout to the PP which won the game in the end. Backlund line looked great and Backs is starting to heat up. God bless the Tanev/Hanifin pairing.
Interesting insight on Valimaki's interview post-game about preference of the North American play style. Said due to the smaller size rinks obviously you play the tighter gaps more and he prefers that style of play vs how he would stand in the middle on the European rinks. Took a bit of getting used to which makes sense given how he struggled a bit to start the season. Now he's used to it and suits his style of play. Can see it in how he has improved the past couple games. Excited to see him develop as his career goes on. Also surprised to hear he speaks perfect English. Can't even tell he's Finnish by listening to him.

I don't understand how Oilers fans or Jets fans could blame officiating seeing the Flames had two powerplays the entire game and the high stick on Gaudreau was a high stick 100% of the time.
