If I was a Jets fan I'd be pissed at my team. They're serving up the freshest of turnovers like it's a free give away day at the bakery. Wow.

Not even sure I can complain about anything after that period. All players played with some intensity, lines looked good. Only thing to complain about is the lack of finish, but at least they're creating chances.
Fast, fun, entertaining period. Considering how terrible some of their 1st periods have been that was excellent. More of that for the next 40 minutes please.

I get that Bennett is feeling it but he had a much easier and better play than that wraparound. Monahan was open for a clear shot.

If Benny keeps playing like this, we better hold on to him.

Good period. Hit a post and PP looked sharp. Thought they could forecheck a little better in the middle-late part and get more zone time. Just need to keep playing hard and stick to their game.

Good period. Thought the play was fairly even but the Flames had the better chances.

Solid first period. Bennett finally playing with some confidence, had a solid first period.
Hope they keep up this level of intensity, they look good.

If McDavid had cut to the net like that, and Hellybuck made that play, the entire first intermission would be a discussion about the skater's right of way. Instead, it's just a smart play by the goalie. It should have been a penalty, as it was well outside of the crease though.

He needs to finish. The hands are still stone. Looks good on the line though.

After 4 days off I'm not surprised. Last time we had 4 days off we lost to effing Vancouver.

Bennett isn't used to having people to pass it to, and Mony and Johnny arn't used to having the guy on right wing do anything. This year anyway.

Love the effort, but he needs to remember he's playing on a three man line and a five man unit. There are other players out there and he needs to use them. That wrap around could have been a pass to an open Monahan in the high slot for a high danger chance for example.

Really happy with that first period. Relative to how they tend to play in the first, it was incredible.
The Lucic-Backlund-Mangiapane line is phenomenal.
Backlund is back and Mangiapane continues to be the most underrated Flame by faaaaar. One of the most underrated players in the entire NHL.
Bennett had 2-3 of the Flames best chances and that line looked a lot better in the first than they did against Edmonton.

Fun period.
As much as the Flames have looked like ass at times so far this season, I really, really like the team's defence corps. They have a fantastic blend of veteran leadership, youth with significant upside, offensive and defensive acumen. Valimaki in particular reminds me of Gio of yesteryear, with the ability to pull out smooth plays/passes as well as solid defensive play. I don't know that I'd change anything on the back end at all for Calgary.
Also, Bennett is getting himself in the right places on that top line. Still makes some poor decisions, but glad he's getting a long look with Gaudreau and Monahan.

To preface, I think Sam had a very strong period.
However, he just doesn’t see those kind of plays.
