Was driving and flipped to the end of what sounded like the Rintoul show, and the topic was Bell virtue signalling on the topic of mental wellness. The argument was well thought out, and can't help but agree with what was said. It might have been O'toole speaking as a guest, I know know.

I like how there was a post ripping Friedman for always "looking like he just got out of bed". Like he just wakes up and walks in. The amount of money spent on that mans hairs, suit, make up for TV is probably what alot of people in here make in a year. I gotta roll my eyes at some people thinking the male sportscasters don"t have pressure to look TV ready either LOL

I saw a more complete list of the cuts today. So many good and talented people. On the TSN side Kristian Jack was included. I am not a huge soccer fan but when I watched him I always thought he was very good

I couldn't care less about what they look like. Hrudy is more dolled up and Botox'd up than any other sportscaster - male or female, but I still enjoy his takes. Same thing with Friedman, regardless of his Karl Marx beard or his no-chin pudding face post-shave - I like his opinion on things even if he looks a mess. Same holds true for any on air personality regardless of gender - we're here for the content. CCP looks well made up and isn't overdoing it (see: Hrudy), but once she shares her thoughts (lack thereof) a strong urge to hit mute kicks in. (this is partial spillover from the PGT)

He is good. Well....as good as West Ham fans can be without a Millwall Hammer.
No, KJ is actually an intelligent soccer man. I really like his takes.
This is the problem, and I know it sucks....but their talent doesnt matter.
It kind of reminds me of musicians. You can be the greatest flautist of all time, but it doesnt matter and the guy who sounds like he's strangling a cat will get your job if he puts asses in seats.
I'm not going to go into the entire world of the Pandemic with Government wage subisidies etc. but media is a hard gig to begin with, sports media is basically a Gladiatorial Arena where you fight against your Co-Workers, Your Boss, Your Fans and Global Economics all at the same time.
KJ is, IMO, the top soccer guy in this Country. Until we come to our senses and realize that Mango is the only one who really knows what she's talking about despite her despicable love for Barcelona (spits on ground).

It shows the class of Jay, but also how highly regarded he is at Bell. It is highly unusual to allow someone to go on anchor and talk at length about co-workers being cut. Typically it is you finish your shift, get told your are done, you get walked out and then your name is never uttered again.
I didn't realize producer Tim was part of the cuts too.

I wonder if Jay will leave and join where ever Dan and Tim end up.

Everyone keeps mentioning Tim. is that Tim from Tim and Sid? Did he get laid off from Sportsnet?

No Tim was the long-time producer of Jay and Dan - on the original TSN version, their U.S. show and then the return to TSN.

The three of them should start their own sports media company and put TSN out of business.

Funny, I always thought it was just a bit. Obviously I know they have a producer, but Jay always made it sound so generic.

With PVRs and all that I am not sure all the extra people are really needed. Tennis is the ultimate overkill. Tennis and boxing overdo it, 3 people talking while only two are in action. Howard Cosell used to do all of it himself on radio.

As an extension of the competition in sports media, TSN/Bell has almost nothing for major sports at this point. They have just regional games for hockey, nothing for the EPL, Bundesliga or any European soccer for that matter. Baseball iOS on their competitors channels and that doesn’t leave a lot. They have the NBA, but that’s not enough to support their sports infrastructure.
And let’s face it, the world of sports highlights has changed. If I want to see the big play from the game, I’m finding it online somewhere and not waiting around for it to come on Sportscentre. If I do watch that though, I’m not interested in sitting through the first 10-15 minutes about Leafs practice and whether their third string defenceman might get a crack this year. I want to see things about my team and I can get that coverage elsewhere.

Dan's tweets many hours/days after being let go should tell you why that would be a terrible idea.

Not just TSN 1040 in Vancouver. The TSN stations in Hamilton and Winnipeg are all completely done too.

I just don't understand why the government allows the telecommunications monopoly in this country. What's the benefit for Canadians? We pay more for our services while they lay off Canadian employees left and right while outsourcing as much labour as possible to countries like India in the name of greed and profit. It's a travesty these corporations have been allowed to scam Canadians like this.
