Cody Eakin has really struggled with the Sabres so far....maybe that could be something that could be built around using Sam.

At first I thought that people here would be underwhelmed by any possible return for Bennett, but now I'm thinking that you will all be overjoyed by whomever comes back that is better than Cody Eakin or a dude that isn't good enough to make the Leafs.

Wait....are you saying Eakin wouldn't be an acceptable return for Bennett?

I mean it’s so public now as much as Ward/Calgary want to deny or dismiss it, I personally think it’s inevitable he’s going to get traded.
I just hope they look for perhaps another change of scenery young guy with high draft expectations like a Tippet from VGK or something. Don’t waste it on bottom 6 plugs we’ve got enough, and tons waiting for their shot.

Eakin was terrible last year for Vegas and Winnipeg.
I know Bennett has an awful statline as well, but Eakin seems like a bad target IMO.

I'm kind of on the Bennett for Virtanen train, Virtanen is a big right shot RW. He might fit in very well on Monahan and Gaudreau's line.

Rebuilding teams only have cap space a number of years after the rebuild starts and the bad contrasts expire.

Also, I think because he's on a Canadian team there wouldn't be any quartine time.

Yet still outscored Bennett. And was heads and shoulders better the previous season.
I mean...yes it would be great if they could turn bennett into something but there is still a truth attached to him...he isnt very good himself, so anything coming back isnt gonna be much better. We are dealing a 3rd/4th line guy here...what is the value of that?
Eakin is just the type of return that is going to happen....if its 1 for 1. If he is part of a package then maybe there is a better chance.
Or I could be dead wrong and am misreading how coveted he might be elsewhere....just not seeing it.

I'm on the Bennett for Virtanen train too. Would love to get Adam Gaudette out of that trade as well.

I’d be OK with it but not for that line - not good enough defensively. Maybe with Lindholm.

Yeah, that would work too. Tkachuk Lindholm Virtanen, sounds good to me.

Those clamoring for Virtanen have no idea about what the needs are on the team. They need some top line skill - not another 3rd or 4th liner. It's a resounding hell no for that unless Virtanen is flipped for something bigger.

Or maybe they're just realistic of the trade value that Bennett likely has...

If you think Bennett is frustrating holy Christ are you in for a whole new world of hurt with Virtanen.

A little insight...Sam is not fetching the Flames “some top line skill”.

Virtanen had 36 points in 69 games last year and he's a big right shot RW. If we can get that for Bennett who had 12 points last season, you take it.

Then you add in other pieces to make it worth the time. No need for a bottom player. We have enough of those and he wouldn't contribute. Go bigger or go for a draft pick.

So what do you have in mind? Are you adding Dube? Valimaki? Monahan?
