DeAngelo being a #### head aside, it's pretty typical for 50+ point defensemen to be tire fires defensively; anyone have any insight into his ability to actually defend?

Eagles fan and near where Johnny grew up... hmmm it does seem to have a bit of smoke and I should be excited about a 50 pt right handed D but still
I haven't seen this mentioned on CP. But in the video someone linked to on Twitter in another thread and Deangelo's dad basically supports his son saying a ton of horrible things by saying something like he would have been suspended too, Johnny's dad is interviewed. Sounds like Guy knew him from while he was growing up from how he talks about him. For this reason, I think there might actually be some truth to this and they think they can provide some good influences for him and maybe have another reason for Johnny to stick around. I sure don't like it, but that's my read.
I'm trying to take the role of eternal optimist here. If the Flames brought in DeAngelo the accompanying side show would be much more interesting and memorable than the product on the ice.

He's been known to have defensive deficiencies in the past, and he's -6 in 6 games this year. He's better in that regard than he was coming out of junior, but still not very good. Supreme offensive skill though.
This reminds of Regher for Kotalik. We knew a trade coming but most of us are in disbelief
All the local guys were saying that trade was just waiting for the shoe to drop. It's not the same when every local Flames reporter is saying the Flames have absolutely no interest in DeAngelo.
How many times has he dropped the gloves since coming to the flames. That's basically what he is at this point, an enforcer and he doesn't even do that for the 5 million he makes a year.

That was one of my points. With the passing of the Enforcer era, there are less and less pugilists with the size and skill to deal with somebody like Looch.
