Tkachuk - Lindholm - Leivo
Gaudreau - Monahan - Simon
Mangiapane - Backlund - Ryan
Lucic - Bennett - Dube
So I don't think it's crazy to think that Bennett thought if he played center he was going to stick with the same linemates he had success with in the bubble last season.

Well, sure, I assumed though that the conversation happened at the end of camp.

Ward's job is not to make Bennett happy but to put the best possible team on the ice. Dube on the fourth line clearly isn't the best for the team.

There was no guarantee, prior to the season starting, that Lindholm would in fact play C (and stay there).
Also, they asked Bennett, so he answered.
Now, 7 games in, it is clear that Lindholm is playing C, so if Bennett wants to play C, it'll be on the 4th line. So he chose to go back to wing.
Seems like a giant nothing burger to me.

The difference between Dube and Bennett is that, every time Dube has been put on a lower line, he excels and lifts his line. He shows that keeping him from getting minutes is bad for the team. Bennett has proven to be more or less replaceable outside of the playoffs.

I don't ever question Bennett's work ethic, he just doesn't have the on ice vision to be an effective top 6 player. The quicker he realizes this, the better it is for him IMO. He should just settle on the fact that he'll always be a bottom 6 forward, and work to improve on that.
What's frustrating about Bennett's play is he still makes those junior moves where he just drives to the net regardless of if there's a lane or not, rather than knowing who else is on the ice that he can pass it to. His on ice vision is pretty much just tunnel vision in front of him.

The other difference between Dube and Bennett?
Dube can do a pull-up.

I think all of the hubbub is online.
Nothing wrong with Ward having a conversation with the player about his slotting
The Flames are clearly not building their strategy around 93

The hope is that if you can find just the right potion that unleashes the potential that's in there somewhere it would make this team so much better and deeper. We've see flashes of it in his rookie year and every playoffs. I don't think anyone still thinks he can be a first liner, but a force on the third line seems like it is a possibility.

Nordstrom's last game was better than any game Bennett has played this year.

No. Just no. Stop this building up the Legend of Sam Bennett. Bennett has not been some superstar unleashed in the post-season. Bennett has been Bennett. The same no skill, no brain, crease crasher that does as much damage as he does good. The difference being this past summer (play-in and playoffs) he had Dillion Dube lifting two scrubs to make a decent line that Winnipeg didn't have an answer for. Once the actual post-season started the efficacy dropped. But the reality was it was all Dube. We said that as that series played on and then again in the post-mortem. There were more than a few of us that were concerned the minute Dube was taken off that line the success would dry up and regular Sam Bennett would return. Funny thing, you remove Dube and replace him with Nordstrom and that line is worse than anything we've seen from any 4th line. Dube has proven to be the player. Sam Bennett is what he is. I wish people would stop trying to create something he isn't.

I'm assuming it happened before training camp...since he started training camp at center.

I'm not saying that's what the coach should have done, or that he should have kept Dube on that line.
I was replying to the people questioning why Bennett thought he might have had better linemates playing center, only to then want to move back to wing shortly after the season started.
All I'm saying is that based on how the bubble went, and how lines started in pre-season, Bennett probably thought he'd start the season on a line with Lucic & Dube, and when he realized it wasn't happened he asked to shift back to wing.
As Enoch Root said I think there is a lot being made about nothing here.

Bruins fans on HF have been throwing Kase’s name around and there was a rumor the Flames were interested in him in the past if I am not mistaken?

Crap, every time someone gets compared with Bennett, that player gets shipped out or signs elsewhere. Then Bennett remains as a Flames. I wonder if other GM's skims over the Bennett threads and get a laugh, then offers Tre a bag of pucks for Bennett (like what the Ducks did). We all know Tre has been trying hard to unload Bennett as part of many packages, but each time, he had to pony up better players or nothing at all.
