I can see DeAngelo going unclaimed, easily.
$4.8M this year and next. Well known inability to keep personal beliefs away from the game of hockey.

But they don't have the cap space

The Sharks have almost nothing to lose at this point. A locker room cancer might even help them.
Capfriendly also shows them with only 6D (only 2 RD), and no D on their taxi sqaud...

Hardcore Trump supporter. Rig election, COVID conspiracy, the whole shebang. But even if he could keep his political views to himself he was also suspended in juniors for racial, sexist and/or homophobic slurs aimed at his own teammates. And he's been suspended for abuse of officials multiple time.
His dad's defense at the time of the bigoted comments was that they use that language every day and it's how he grew up. #### apple not falling far from the #### tree.

Johnny Hockey “Destined for Philadelphia?”
Quote:
“There is zero doubt in my mind that he is not going to re-sign in Calgary. He says otherwise, but I think he is destined for Philadelphia,” Francis said when asked about Gaudreau’s future with Calgary. “I think people have thought that from the day he signed here and he’ll ultimately be a Flyer.”
|
Quote:
From the Calgary side, the deal would have to be a hockey trade, talent-for-talent. The Flames are in a Stanley Cup window and have a core in place to contend for at least the next couple of seasons; any deal sending Gaudreau out of town would have to include current roster players of equal value coming back.
While no deal is imminent between the Flyers and Flames, this storyline could be something to keep an eye on in the coming months.

Wut?
I'm not sure Francis could look out a window and tell you what the weather is like in Calgary let alone this.

MOD EDIT: This could be interpreted as you saying some pretty awful things about Francis. Probably not your intent, but over the line.

Eric* and yes he is. He’s had it in for Gaudreau since he started creating a buzz after being drafted, until a true insider comes out with something on Gaudreau I’m going to continue to enjoy watching his game. So glad to see him showing those flashes we have being seeing for so many years!

It wouldn't be a shocking headline that an unrestricted free agent goes to their hometown team. It happens (Tavares to Toronto or Parise to Minnesota for example).
I know Francis is just doing Francis stuff, but it is a realistic scenario that we need to consider. Once he fulfills his contractual obligations in Calgary, he doesn't owe the Flames anything and we should expect him to make the best decision for himself. If negotiations to extend him don't look like they are going to pan out, we need to trade him, and preferably while he still has a year left to maximize value.
I am leaning towards this being Johnny's last year as a Flame. I am not terribly upset about it either because it may force the shake-up that the team needs anyway.

Johnny has been my favourite player since he joined the organization, but I'm a flames fan first. If the writing is really on the wall that he's not re-signing here, we absolutely need to cash in that chip, even if we're worse in the short-term.
