The move for Kocecny was way more feasible in the offseason.

Trade Gaudreau, Keep Monahan.

Especially when they are probably the top team he would want to sign with in free agency in 17 months. I think they’d rather just wait than give up serious assets.

Everyone knows Johnny has Philly connections, including his fiancée.
IIRC Konecny's girlfriend coincidentally lives in Calgary, or is at least going to school here.

And they paid $2M in bonus of Konecny’s $5M total this year already.

JG has got plenty of points, but mostly powerplay. I used to worry about a) the cost of his next contract and b) if not contract, then can they trade him for enough.
But now, i'm meh. His next contract shouldn't be too onerous. Maybe its covid caused, but if the contact is too high and he walks, meh.

If anything, the Flames in this scenario should downgrade their 1st to Philly 2nd or 3rd, replace Monny with Maniapane and retain the overbalance to help facilitate the deal. At least this way the Flyers have some cost control over at least one player.
Although I also believe the Flyers making a mega deal like this would want to somehow get Ghost off their books too. I think the Flames could help facilitate that issue as well.

^The inclusion of Ghost would make it more interesting, but I still think the picks tip it in Calgary's favor.
Ghost+Konecny+Patrick for Johnny+Sean.
(I doubt Philly even does that but fun to speculate)

Flames don't even have the balls to bench a player in game for terrible play, let alone scratching one before the game starts.

No, its a statement of the efficacy of Sam Bennett and whether anyone should fear playing against Sam Bennett. Frankly, any team that has Sam Bennett on it going forward is likely not going to be very good, because Sam Bennett is not a very good hockey player. Relying on Sam Bennett to be a player of significance is a statement on the lack of depth and skill on your hockey team. That is the statement. If you are afraid of trading Sam Bennett to an opponent, you haven't been paying attention to the performance of Sam Bennett. He is not going to contribute in to a winner in any significant way, so having fear of facing him is a foolish position.

Completely agree, which is why there should be zero fear in trading him away, even to a bitter divisional rival.

So if that is the fate of the team, then you can substitute the name of any of his teammates, and the statement has the exact same meaning
Profound

Read into it what you like, but it was a statement on Bennett's talent level.

When Sam Bennett was born, Era took out a full page ad in the Sun stating how bad this kid was going to be as a hockey player. You have to admire that kind of commitment.

Ha. Coming off the top rope!
Perhaps a little strong, but I can’t disagree. When Bennett ends up in Seattle, or elsewhere, no one in their right mind should lose any sleep over it.

Edmonton. Unfortunately, no salary cap space.
