There's no need for Montreal to reach with their sticks or interfere when the Flames are this flat.
It looks REALLY easy for Montreal so far.

I don't recall him saying he wanted to sign with the Flames. Must have missed it. Can you please share the link?

Can we make some space in the corner for the pouting fans who have given up?
There is still 20 min to play and this same core has come back from this deficit before, so I’m going to choose to cheer them on.
Remember, this is just trivial entertainment.

But besides his transgression, he made Lucic feel bad so the players rally for softie Ward to continue on to coach the rest of the season. And now an extension.
He's never going to lay the hammer down where players are pissed at him. So, they'll say about needing to be better but really won't change the mindset of the players.

No, they need to ask Lucic to waive and go to the taxi squad. Then hope he calls it a career.

What team that spends to the cap has a worst record over his tenure
Even the Oilers made the 2nd round once ...

Ward isn’t a top end NHL quality coach IMO.
He was out coached by Dallas in the playoffs and should have never been extended.
Treliving had a decent offseason bringing in Markstrom and Tanev who look good so far (even though I wasn’t a huge fan of either move at the time) but he needed to bring in a coach that was going to play to this rosters strengths.
Instead he stuck with Ward. The frustrating part is he was given a mulligan after what happened with Peters and had the opportunity to go get a proven coach in Gallant or Boudreau but instead stuck with Ward.
And it’s clear that this is coaching to me at this point. Before the break the team looked confident, was playing more aggressive, and was trying to dictate play.
Come out if the break and they are playing the boring, low risk, passive hockey that they started to play coming out of the break in 18-19. They play slow because the coach wants them to play slow. Don’t take a risk, make the safe pass, circle back in your own zone to let the other team get into their defensive structure.

With the money this team spent to put Rinaldo and Stone on the taxi squad, the Flames could have used that salary, combined with what Ward currently makes, to find an actual adequate coach.
Absolutely mind boggling.

No, the criticism has some validity. Of course, you need the player to agree, and as always, I’m sure the Flames were “right in there to the end”.
It’s more frustration that the team couldn’t find a top 6 RW in this market. The Markstrom signing was a coup, and Tanev is looking good so far, but the lack of this Top 6 option is clearly ham stringing this team.
It all goes back to the Neal signing. In retrospect, just a franchise killer. I don’t know where you go from here...maybe check in with TB on Johnson? Get them to retain and ship Bennett the other way just for salary purposes? Clearly, I’m grasping at straws here, but this need just seems so glaring.

He was a finalist when Gully was hired. Not a surprise that they would have similar coaching styles.

The problem with Treliving is he thinks he's the smartest guy in the room. There are obvious smack you in the face options available but he chooses to go off the board because he's smarter than everyone else. You can see this in his interviews and all his "trust the process" BS he spews.

Well, the constant "looking at the tablet after goals" schtick is certainly reminiscent thereof...
