Anyway, it doesn't all come down to stats when its really the intangibles of the player at our #1 centre position that needs changing, such as using your stature to your advantage, being hard to play against, driving the play.
Even if Dubois is not all these things, its different and shakes up a soft top line. Monahan is not hard to play against and honestly Dubois becoming available is the situation this forum dreamed of after get eliminated last playoffs saying "you're not gunna get a top young centre unless you draft them", "young centres don't grow on trees". Well now one is available and now the price is too high or he's a brat.

I’d pay that for Barkov type player. Not PLD type player imo.

I think it’s debatable PLD is better than Monahan.

Oh it's mostly the Monahan fanbois who seem to believe Monahan is suddenly going to become a complete player and have complete blinders on about how easy he is to play against.

I’d say odds are about one third each that he could be better, the same, or not as good.
What’s that worth?

I think Tre is just driving the price up, nothing more. It'll go to another team and the price will be so ridiculous that the equivalent package from the Flames would cause us all to projectile vomit.
Either that or we get him for pennies on the dollar.

Using this he term "fanbois" as a swipe at the not-insignificant number of board members who do not see things your way is certainly not doing you any favours.
Sean Monahan is a very good player.

To put it another way, Dubois is same birth year as Valimaki and Dube. Does anyone think either player is anywhere close to their full potential?

I don't think anyone doubts that Dubois has room to grow, but I think there are legitimate questions about how good he is and how good he can become. Monahan had two +60-points/ +25-goals season by the time he was Dubois's age. It is reasonable to question whether he is actually a better player than Monahan.

This needs to go away, no center who plays with Johnny is going "to drive the play". Gaudreau needs the puck on his stick or he is useless. It is amazing to watch all the gymnastics people pull to put everything on Monahan and basically give Johnny a pass.

Is, or will be? I’m willing to bet he will be. And not just based on offense.
But like I said earlier, we know what this forward group can accomplish when games get difficult so I don’t see a deal like this as too big a risk. Maybe there are better players to target but I have a hard time thinking of any.

One day after Pierre-Luc Dubois’s benching became the talk of the NHL, Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen aggressively pursued trading his unhappy centre — with the belief a trade could come as soon as Saturday morning.
According to multiple sources, the Winnipeg Jets’ package includes two players of their own who have requested trades — Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic (Roslovic, who is unsigned, is a Columbus native). Anaheim is believed to have significantly increased its offer. Calgary and Montreal are among the other interested parties, and there are undoubtedly more. (As I write this, it is not believed the Canadiens are willing to include Nick Suzuki, although what’s true now might not be true 10 minutes from now.)
The Blue Jackets host Tampa Bay on Saturday afternoon, but, even if a move is not completed, Dubois is not expected to be in the lineup.

Laine and Roslovic feels like too much to me.
The deal would be bigger and Another piece would be going back with Dubois in that scenario IMO.

Don't think we can beat the Laine + Roslovic offer unless CBJ really wants a center back.

If Winnipeg in offering that then let them have him. The only way PLD will benefit us is if we get him to bolster a team with Mony and Jonny. Not losing one as it will really only be a lateral move.

Depends what it's for. The Jets package you're talking about will have to have more coming back from Columbus, maybe a pretty massive trade.
If the Flames just want PLD it wouldn't be as much as Laine/Roslovic.

It feels like too much, but if the Laine rumours are true, then its 2 players who want a change of scenery + a significant add from Winnipeg. Winnipeg gets the more coveted player positionally but Columbus wins "in the now".
