Though im guessing that would not be anywhere near what other teams would offer.
Kings make a lot of sense to me....they have a lot of nice young pieces....he would accelerate the rebuild.

Do most of us think than Monahan would be more likely to re-sign with the Flames at a reasonable cap hit than Gaudreau would be?

I do...but he is signed for 2 years beyond this one which i believe gives him a lot more value.
Fixed costs are going to be there own currency among NHL GM's the next couple years with the complete uncertainty of revenue totals.

Monahan+Zary/Pelletier+1st is an overpayment
Replace Monahan with Bennett and add Ryan for cap purposes I would do it. I would also be okay with taking out Zary/Pelletier and adding a lesser prospect to Monahan+1st

I'm basically out at this point if I'm Tre. The team composition looks too good right now and PLD just isn't a big enough upgrade on Monahan to move the needle for me.
If they Somehow create a futures trade that doesn't involve a core forward going back to Columbus, then either Mangiapane or Dube will be exposed, so you can basically count one of those guys as gone along with the futures you send.
The one thing that could still get my attention if the deal is 1 for 1 with Monny or Gaudreau, but even then I probably balk. I like PLD as someone who could be a good not great #1 C one day. As of now, he doesn't have the production or the 2 way maturity to be labeled as such.
Those talking about PLD "leading" the Blue Jackets past the Lightning and how big an accomplishment that playoff run was from him are not remembering the right year. That team was lead by Duchene, Panarin, Jones, Werenski and Bob.

I wonder how much this deal would interest Columbus
Bennett+Pelletier/Zary (Columbus choice) 2x 1st round pick, Ryan (cap purposes)
This way the Flames only lose Bennett off the roster and they can manage the quarantine easily. Columbus gets a player that they can put at center and give a fresh start to but the key for them is getting a top prospect and multiple 1st rounders.
Flames then have 5 near elite forwards in Tkachuk, Lindholm, Gaudreau, Monahan, Dubois and then still have Backlund, Dube, Mangiapane. I don’t know too many teams that could have a better overall top 9. It doesn’t take away from the defense either.
With a very solid prospect worth at least a 1st, 2 other 1st rounders and a former 4th overall pick that could use a change of scenery and known to elevate his game in big situations is a pretty strong offer
