In my view Markstrom on the Oil would have made them very dangerous. They have MANY problems but Markstrom could have covered up a lot of those issues instantly. The team could have traded offense for offense with teams - knowing they had, at most nights, the better guy between the pipes.
The difference between the Oilers with Markstrom and the Oilers with Koskinen is huge.

The best part of it all, is the current division alignment really shines a light on this.
The North division may be the deepest as far as goalies go, and the Oilers are at the bottom. Having to play vezina caliber goalies on most nights, while their goalies flop around and leave their glasses in their locker, means trading offense for offense is a recipe for disaster. McDavid and Draisaitl both have to have multi point games, in the same game, for them to have a chance, and as we're seeing 4 games in, its not that hard to shut 1 or both down more often than not. The Oilers duo won't get to feast on 25 backups this season. At best, they see Campbell, Brossoit, Hogberg and Demko 3 maybe 4 times a piece. That leaves 40-44 games where they are clearly outclassed in net. The fact that their defense is a pile of garbage, and their forwards are just the flies hovering above that pile means it's going to be a wonderful season of watching them fail.

There is a poll up at HF, what is the top 3 problems with the oilers.
Two of the top responses are "lack of intensity and heart" and "poor execution/decision making". Don't ever change Edmonton.
Also, which one of you put "the water" as an answer?

Watch them put Drai back with McDick and go 8-1-1 in their next 10.

No. Don’t think that’s gonna happen. Oddly specific though.

I was just listening to the Oilers post-game show from last night. Rob Brown thinks that the reason the Oilers have had such a poor start is because visiting teams are so extremely desperate playing against "the two best players in the world." Poor Edmonton doesn't stand a chance with every one else playing the Oilers so hard. How terribly unfair.

If McDavid is in fact choosing his linemates, I don't even blame him. I'm sure he doesn't have any interest in dragging AHL talent through games, so he's got to basically instruct the coach that he's going to play with the few actual NHL players they have.

How fit do you have to be to not play defensively, and pick up scraps from 5 ft out?

Is he on LTIR? If so can’t see being out of shape a legit reason.

According to Cap Friendly, he is not on the LTIR or the taxi squad. He is just listed as a non-roster player:
https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/oilers
Today is the 15th day since he was deemed unfit to play, so if it is just a precautionary COVID quarantine, they should be activating him tomorrow.

Talk about the Oilers draft record would be incomplete without remembering 1995, when the draft was held in Edmonton. The Oilers held the #6 pick and as they approached the podium, the fans chanted Doan, Doan, Doan - hoping their team would draft the blue chip prospect from Alberta. Mistakenly thinking themselves as being much smarter than the average fan, they went on to draft Steve Kelly. Doan, chosen with the #7 pick by Winnipeg, goes on to play 1540 games with 972 points. Kelly plays 149 and has 21 points. (Edmonton boy Iginla was drafted at #11).
Edmonton is no good.

Oh man, that is brutal. Although if the drafted Doan, they likely would have ruined him as well.
My favourite draft story about the Oilers is that the NHL actually had to change the lottery rules because of them. They sucked so bad and for so long that it caused a permanent ripple effect across the league. There should be a banner for that.

The Oilers have played 4 games this year, all on home ice, and the opposition has started their backup for 2 of them. Yeah, really desperate.

If there was a demanded trade Buffalo could do it with ease.
Something like...
To Edmonton:
Jack Eichel and Jack Quinn
To Buffalo:
McJesus
