I think he always had the adoration for authority and likes that Trump demands it. He wouldn't admit, but if I had to look inside his brain, I would bet there is something hardwired or pathological going on.

Also, good luck on that pardon. We keep thinking there is a "bridge too far" for Trump and time and time again, and then the bridge simply gets pushed to a new limit. However, if Trump pardoned this guy, I can't imagine the fall out.
This is why I think it's probably a good thing that the impeachment trial in the senate doesn't start until Trump is out of office. He knows that if he tries to pardon people involved in the insurrection, that only makes him look more complicit and increases the likelihood of him being blocked from ever running for office.
