Monahan is a good piece if Columbus wants to keep competing. What other established centers can they get that are close?

It's not about how rare they are, but about how much they help your team. You don't gut the top end of your roster to acquire one player. Dubois isn't bringing the kind of overpayment some people are talking about, unless a dumb GM goes into panic mode.

Which means he's probably going to the Canucks.

Must be why so many people are mentioning Barkov in the PLD thread on HF.

A Barkov move sounds at least a year away

Barkov is an interesting case as he is the same age as Monahan. Much closer than PLD to free agency plus he's in Prime-post years vs pre-prime for Dubois.

What say ye all on value comparison between the two?

Barkov is worth more.

Borkov is such a complete player and controls the game at an Elite level. Even when considering age and contract Barkov is still worth more.

Barkov and Lindholm down the middle would be drool-worthy. We'd have to pick up a sniper, but there's usually some available through FA or the trade market.

Barkov? I'm not sure Treliving would have any interest in any 2013 1st rounders...

Barkov instantly becomes the best person to wear a Flames Jersey since Jarome Iginla circa 2008-ish

Exactly. The other teams said to be in the mix are offering wingers.

Barkov is one of the best Centers in the league, even when his production is around ppg, as opposed to the 96pts he put up 2 years ago. It would be hard, even for a PLD booster like myself, to say that he's got more value than Barkov. In a few years, I hope to see PLD become another Seguin-but even Seguin in his prime is no Barkov.

If pld and/or barkov are available, I would be willing to part with both of monahan and gaudreau to make it happen (not necessarily in the direct trade itself but as part of the salary shuffle).

A lot of articles I have read that speculate what the cost for the Flames would be in a Dubois swap seem to revolve around Monahan+1st rounder.

That makes sense to me for both sides. Hope the pick can be lottery or at least top 3 protected but that is a deal the Flames should be willing to make. Columbus gets a replacement center singed for 3 years and a future piece

I don’t see LA giving up Byfield, I don’t see Montreal giving up Suzuki. Laine is still intriguing but not a center and I don’t see Columbus wanting to take on that contract he’s going to get next.

Vancouver won’t give up their Captain I wouldn’t think.
Columbus won’t want Nuge who’s going UFA.

I see us definitely as a front runner if they want a replacement first line center. Can they really go through another rebuild again? I can’t see them doing that to their fans.

I think it would make sense to pull the trigger before the flames up coming 5 days off. Limits the games that will be played without Monahan while PLD quarantines.

Just a thought.

If they are going to make a trade, they need to make it right now. After this break they won't be able to afford to lose a top line player. Make the trade and get the team moving in a positive direction.

Yep. I'm fully in on them executing a meaningful trade to change the make-up of the Gaudreau-Monahan duo.

Pull the trigger now, get the new player integrated into the team early in the season.

PLD - pay what you have to from a futures perspective. Get it done, because this team is not winning anything with Monahan as a top-6 centre.

Yeah, either a big trade comes through in the next week or so or the Flames will be riding the dame team basically or did they plan a bye week after trade deadline?
