This article raises the interesting question of motivation for Twitter, Google, Apple etc. in cleaning house. Were they removing people and their posts to prevent future violence, or were they removing people and their posting histories to remove the evidence of activity on their platforms that the companies could possibly be held liable for in future? Perhaps the widespread bans are partially them dumping evidence in the digital paper shredder to avoid scrutiny.

I was browsing some of that meta data for fun, and the stuff that got stored is crazy. Some exif data had people’s Windows user folder listed. I didn’t dive in very deep, but I bet depending on the cell phone it might have more information about the owner.

That whole thing was either poorly designed or an FBI honeypot.

I realized the other day that the next time I hear a relative tell me they’re not racist, I’ll agree with them.

“You are right. You are not racist, you are simply disgustingly ignorant.”

Is Trump guilty of Inciting the Riot?

Great video. In summary, the views of this lawyer are:
  • Criminally at risk for causing the riot? Very unlikely given the language Trump used and case precedent
  • Conviction of Impeachment? If this doesn't meet the definition of impeachment, nothing will. One doesn't need to be criminally convicted (this idea is contested).

^^ I don’t see Trump’s words hours before the attack as the main piece of evidence though for his risk. If there’s communications between Trump’s team and any sort of group promoting this, it’s game over. If we’ve learned anything from the Mueller investigation, it’s pretty obvious they don’t do much to hide their tracks.

The Atlantic had a really good article that this was likely a multi-pronged, full on coup attempt starting with Trump’s huge change at the Pentagon a few weeks ago and why you saw all the previous Defence Secrataries coming out publicly not for the military to meddle in politics.

I don't know why, but I am very cynical that we will find a smoking gun that indicates Trump promoted this riot, beyond circumstantial evidence

I mean we’re talking about a President who is about to be impeached twice. I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibilities this gets blown up.

Biden SHOULD throw every investigative tool at this. This was an attack on democracy and the United States its self by thousands of its own citizens.

However, Biden clearly has no interest in pursuing this and seeing it as a political move. Trump is a criminal and deserves to be held accountable. One failed conviction of impeachment emboldened him to this point.

There are times when, all law aside, the establishment realizes that someone has to be put down, I can see the supreme court going along with that quite happily if given half a chance.

The thing that struck me with that FBI/DOJ update/press briefing is that the two people who absolutely should be there and talking...were not.

The Attorney General and the Director of the FBI are THE 2 people who lead those agencies and who have for decades (and maybe ever), have been the two people you would see answering those kind of questions when an event like this occurs.

Really strange.

I really doubt it.

That video I posted has me now feeling like a legal expert who understands the 1st Amendment, and the context of precedent. So as a brand new expert on this topic with no formal education, I must say I disagree with you.

Might Biden, after taking office, declare Marshall law to give himself more power to act on these very serious threats?

Biden should not pursue anything. Him pursuing it would make it political.

The Department of Justice should pursue it. Despite how it has looked since January 20, 2017 @ 12:00 PM ET, the DoJ isn't meant to operate on the President's every impulse.
