I would wait until after inauguration. There are all sorts of communications going back and forth about the 19th being the next big protest in Washington by the Trumpty-dumbties, so it may be worth while leaving this around to capture the build up to that event.
I wonder how long the media honeymoon with Biden will last into his presidency. Frankly the media is like that angry dog on a leash. They'll behave for a while, but when they see their viewership numbers or readership numbers drop, they'll turn on him.

that's a good point, plus it will give people time to figure out a clever name for the new thread.
I don’t offer any opinions that aren’t expressed already in mainstream media sites. The only people who would find my comments at all unusual are those who get their news from twitter.
On a board that includes peter12, this might be the most arrogant, out of touch post I've read here.

I'm pretty scared about what happens on Inauguration Day. No way that the events from two days ago were a one-time thing. I expect there to be more violence.

Media honeymoon? Good grief, guy.
We're going from a lying narcissist who - probably with the exception of the fataing Mooch of all people - only hired other liars to lie for him to the media. I mean, yeah I imagine there would be some natural relief with the media's expectation a degree of honesty will be returning to the White House. IDK, maybe they may be looking forward to the president and his enablers not calling them the enemy of the people anymore, too.
They didn't "turn" on Trump for ratings and it's beyond moronic to think that's where any discord between the media and Trump administration came from.

Good old Manchin from West Virginia will be taking the senate hostage now, thank you for coming along. Has already said he opposes $2000 cheques and as always is still a Democrat in name only. Oops we got close though so that’s nice.
Side question, what is actually involved in issuing a pardon? Is it good enough for him to just say it in front of witnesses, or is there a formal written process that has to be sealed and delivered somewhere? Because if there is actually a formal process that requires others working with him, it would be really funny if he has no staff left to help him pardon himself when it comes to that.

Christ, the "Hawley Rehabilitation" tour is going to start here because he's in favour of them. Hopefully someone primaries Manchin in 2024.

I think he is correct on this though. The $2000 checks is putting a whole lot of money in the wrong place.
His statement on this seems quite reasonable:
"He has also said repeatedly that when the Biden administration comes in they can assess the needs of the American people and submit proposals to Congress about how to best address those needs," the statement continued. "When the time comes, Senator Manchin will evaluate those proposals. He has also made clear that the focus when delivering economic relief must be on those who are unemployed through no fault of their own.”
Unfortunately primarying Manchin simply results in an unelectable Democrat, and as a result an easy Republican victory in WV. Better to live with Manchin, accept that he's not a true Democrat but will be with you on more votes than most Republicans. They need a strong showing in states like Georgia (again), Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and North Carolina in 2022 and they can make Manchin irrelevant again.

Well in good news, it sounds like the Joint Chiefs have put precautions in place to prevent Trump from instigating military conflicts or using nuclear weapons. Not a statement I'd have ever expected to see about a President, but good nonetheless:
Quote:
Before Friday’s conference call, Pelosi told her colleagues that she had asked Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, about preventing Trump from initiating a nuclear strike. A person familiar with Friday’s call says Pelosi has told them that Milley has told her there are precautions in place that would prevent such an action by Trump.
The president has sole authority in the U.S. government to order the launch of a nuclear weapon. But if a military commander were to determine, on advice of his lawyers, that such an order was illegal, then the order could be refused.
I thought the US nuclear arsenal was still controlled via the votes system. Where the President needed a vote by a cabinet member or senior political appointee, and the Joint Chiefs would still be able to determine if the order was lawful.
Its more difficult then Trump mashing a button.
