DC Protest Thread (Jan 2021)
Apparently, there have been calls on social media to have a repeat of this on Jan 19th. I have a feeling security forces will be better prepared

Had many of them met a bullet, you can bet they would be seen as martyrs to the cause, creating a powderkeg and giving them some actual reason to attack government officials.
Again, this credit goes to absolutely nobody, it's just the way things went down, but there is a positive side to it. It could have been worse for everybody, including the Capitol.

Yes imagine if this was Ottawa, it would be heart breaking, because its DC my brain tends to go into 'it's a TV show' mode but this is their country being trampled on

All media is regulated to some extent. Not quite as dramatic or draconian as China or Russia, but the media is regulated in many ways. The same should extend to social media, which is pretty much the wild west.

I am a couple pages behind, so don't know if this has already been said. But it's way worse than that.
Rumors are that when finally ordered in the National Guard was under the direction of Pense (who does not have that authority). Trump never relented and allowed the National Guard to put down an insurrection, which is literally the reason they exist.

She was a deluded MAGA-head so anything is possible, but I hope there is an investigation.
|
The MAGA turds were trying to break down a door with armed security on the other side with guns drawn. They didn't actually shoot until the first person tried to force their way in, then it was a single shot and she dropped to the floor which stopped the mob from going further. Seems completely justified to me, and the only thing that woman deserves is a Darwin award

My bigger thought on this was..
Everyone knew that there was going to be something yesterday and knew that it would end up at the Capitol building as that is where the count was taking place and the whole idea was to stop that from happening. Again...everyone knew that.
Everyone means just that...everyone.....including enemy state operatives who so easily could have gone and bought some Trump/Maga crap, infiltrated the crowd both at the rally and then at the capitol itself...and then just walked right into the very heart of the government and where democracy happens. Literally walk right in through the front doors and put into action all the ill intentions they would have. Terrorism served up with desert.
Mind numbing stuff.

Not only that, but how many critical documents may have been compromised.

Call me a pessimist, but I expect another similar scene on inauguration day, maybe not at the event itself but individual violent protests in multiple states.
This cracks the seal in a lot of ways, because if there aren't mass arrests, this worked in terms of frightening and shocking a nation.
Not to sound glib, but basically a large mob of buck toothed hillbilly trump supporters with nothing more then bricks and placards and flags, just managed to storm a major government facility. That in itself is shocking and disturbing.
Also in terms of foreign effects, I would imagine that the US will do a major muscle flex internationally in the first weeks of Biden's presidency to show that America is still strong and resilient.

Apparently inside the building the most popular activity was waiting in line to go pee.

It isn't exactly making things up. I mean, it wasn't hard to figure what might happen here. Even more clear in retrospect, when Trump threw gasoline on the fire, rather than try and calm the masses.

I loved how the angry mob overran and infiltrated the Capitol Building but video footage showed some of them moving single file along the guided walkway and between the velvet ropes taking pictures.

It reminds of the scene in American Psycho when he puts on Huey Lewis with the 80s pop music blasting while watching horrible events unfold.
I could total see this being Donald Trump Jr.

Certainly a spin. They aren’t in the whitehouse, and it’s written to imply that he is cheering it on while it happens. But that’s not what’s happening in the clip. It’s unnecessary fuel for the other side of the table.
The Twitter poster followed up with this
Quote:
Note* this video could be taken before the storming. In any case, they’re having a maskless party before pumping up the crowd to go storm the capital.
|
.
“In any case”.. then things we all already know. He even realizes he spun it. Same with the “they’ve breached the capital again!” Cops letting them through a barricade video that keeps getting shared with the last second clipped out, showing hundreds of people already on that side. The commentary was meant to stir #### up, and spin what we were watching.

68 people have been arrested as of right now. Of the 68, only 1 is from the DC area. With most people involved appearing to be from out of town, I imagine the police will have a good source for leads simply by looking at stays in hotels, not to mention the ample evidence from the dumb dumbs who posted to their social media accounts for Likes.
