Better than the Price who has been in the conversation for best goalie in the world and that just put up a .936 sv% in the playoffs behind a Montreal team that had no reason to be there, much less bounce the Pens?
Ok.
I mean he pretty much did what the Pens feared most.

Carey Price's last three years: .900, .918, .909
Jacob Markstrom's last three years: .912, .912, .918
I take Markstrom over Price every day. Markstrom hasn't had a Shea Weber in front of him, either.

I mean, I'm not — Price has just been clearly on a decline in terms of SV%, GSAA, and GSAx for years now, whereas Markstrom has been improving substantially. Also, Price is terribly overpaid.
Price and Braden Holtby are very much two sides of the same coin. Bobrovsky, too.

Oh dear, we are looking at just stats with no context
More homework to be done, my friend.
Price was battling chronic fatigue that rock bottom year (.900), found nutritional deficiencies (Vit B12, D), got concussed, etc. Also that year, Shea Weber played 26 games.
Markstrom is a career average goalie with a good year and intriguing underlying fundamentals.
Price just singlehandedly showed Crosby the door.
Sv % between .910 and .920 is normal team influenced stat range. Being up at .936, especially when it matters, is another level
And especially behind that Montreal roster. Not good. Superhuman goaltending when it counts is the most recent thing we have seen from Price.
Of course they are all better than Koskinen and Smith
But the only way Markstrom is better than Price is the beautiful logo he will have on his jersey

Would you trade Markstrom for Price?
And no, not really without context — I appreciate that Price went through some difficulties in 2017-18 but the Habs weren't going anywhere fast with him in net in the regular season this year despite Weber and Petry posting great seasons defensively. He was a "net" negative presence for them in net this year (no pun intended) — and that's without even factoring in his contract.
I get he got hot in the playoffs but he hasn't shown over the last three years that he's able to perform at that level consistently.

Price is an interesting one. I think once he’s retired, it will be a lot of discussion about what could have been instead of what actually was.

No, but that’s an entirely different conversation.
I would never build a team around a goalie over 10 M. If I had to choose between that and the Detroit / Chicago cup winning model of building a kick ass team in front of a solid guy like Howard or Crawford, I’d be more towards spending money on that second model, looking for a deep and balanced roster.
Your post was a simple statement that one guy was better than the other. On the ice, today, if I needed to win a series, it’s Price. All day, every day.
He is only 3 years older, and has played behind a pretty weak team. That team 2 years ago got 44 wins with Price playing behind top forwards Domi, Tatar and Drouin.
The Habs have been rough the past 3 years and no goalie could sustainably make those rosters contenders

This season, December is the new September.
Oiler fans are watching the team undefeated, full of promise, building something special, drinking the Edmonton water, and ready for the successful preseason
Lots of mental gymnastics involved in being a fan up there, and I don’t think it lends itself to being jealous

Oilers will be completely fine with Koskinen/Smith, cup contenders even. I may or may not be able to say that with a straight face.
