Capfriendly reminded me that Neal is on contract for $5.75 for another 2 years AFTER this year, and they do not have 2nd, 3rd, and 5th round picks in the upcoming draft. Interesting situation indeed....

Don't forget 750k of the Lucic contract that stuck around. They essentially have Neal at 6.5 for those years.

Funny thing, this made me look at Capfriendly and the average age of the NHL teams in the Canadian division. The Flames are the second youngest team after the Sens. Of the Canadian teams the Oilers are the oldest. Hope I don't have to hear about the young Oilers all year again.

That's something I haven't looked at before. According to capfriendly rosters, Flames are tied for 5th youngest in the league with LA (27)
Teams that are younger than Flames:
Hurricanes (26.7)
Devils (26.8)
Rangers (25.3)!
Flyers (26.6)

Yep, but first he’s calling John Hopkins and confused why they don’t know who Ryan is. “But this is the number Chiarelli had on the list he left behind”.

Barrie couldn't find his own zone with Yoda on his back pointing at the Oilers net and screaming "Backcheck you must, Defense you must play"

Not a big deal for them. Nothing drafted after the first round works out for them anyway.

Oilers have painted themselves into a corner. They have been patient enough that a bunch of those high bottom 6 contracts are expiring and after this year. Pretty much only McDavid, Draitsaitl, Neal and Kassian, on contract for the following season. Great they have cap space, but without some series propects coming up, they will be forced into the same cycle of trying to build or fill in UFA.
I think the kicker is they will be forced to spend sooner rather than later to appease McDavid. With things stripped down the the foundation, they really aren't that much farther along than Seattle.

Of players that took over 100 draws, he was only 3rd out of 5, and only 1 was over 50%.

*Edit - quite obviously I'm not defending, just clarifying.

A decade ago it was clear that to win a cup 1/2 your team has to come from within your own system. I think the average is 11 players drafted or free agents ala europe or NCAA. LA had the fewest with just 8 team developed players when they won the cups. You cannot trade or buy your way to a cup anymore.
Am I wrong thinking Feaster was actually the GM who originally vastly expanded our scouting system? Adding Eastern Junior, US High School, NCAA and European scouts? Treliving has certainly put his stamp on it however the club has drafted well the past 4-6 years by any measure.

It could take 4 full years...and that's with a vaccine distributed widely.

Too many nhl21 games where the tenderness finally gets to play first line centre and somehow whilst doing that gives himself a shoulder injury.
“I’ll show “Mr. Let’s Go” who wins the most draws (frantically spamming the “draw” button)...ow ow ow my shoulder...”
