I don’t think the CPS would have issued a statement if that were the case.

I’m truly dumbfounded how many people are happy to be living in an upside down world. They are so happy that police are called to break up make shift outdoor scrimmages, yet stand behind drug consumption sights. The kids should’ve been at home getting drunk or out shooting up at an injection sight as these are apparently deemed safer then physical fitness, sunshine and the clean mountain air Calgarians enjoy. The boys were also enjoying something that was okayed and suggested by our very own Premier 10 or so days ago. Do people really expect the 21 and under crowd to keep tabs on the ever changing laws, rules, restrictions and regulations that change week to week and are riddled with inconsistencies?
COVID fatigue is more prevalent with every passing day, the ever changing restrictions add apathy to the fatigue. The young man that was arrested has had enough, and is part of a growing population who, be it right or wrong, share his views. And the signs of COVID hysteria are most obvious right here on this very forum.
Hopefully from now on the Wiesblatt family chooses to hang out at the mall instead of the outdoor rink.

The ever changing restrictions are because covid cases continue to rise. The guy who was arrested was an idiot. Judging by your post you might be also.

Who is happy living in our current world? Most people just realize measures need to be taken to help lessen the impact of the pandemic as we get through it together. You know, be a decent human being? But unfortunately, as is demonstrated time and time again, people need laws and restrictions to comply. That has always been the case. Even with laws in place, you get idiots like this Ocean guy and other anti maskers.
I just don't get the mental gymnastics some seem to need to do in order to argue their anti mask position, to be honest. It's just making it worse for everyone else who wants to get back to a normal life.

Folks love citing law and order as a mantra for life when talking about marginalized groups or poor people, but when they get busted for breaking the law they cry that the law is not fair. Fascinating.

First, I don't think anyone likes the way things are. That is why people should follow the rules so that we can hopefully exit this crap sooner. The more selfish people are the longer this will drag on.
Second, what the hell does Covid have to do with safe injection sites? Should the government completely suspend chemo treatments as well?

When you say that wanting to people to follow current restrictions is Covid hysteria does that mean you were comfortable with the pre-restriction growth rates of 20-30% per week and that leading to .25% - 1% of the Alberta population dying of the disease plus whoever se dies due to an overwhelmed health care system?
Also while I would hope everyone is keeping up with the current rules I don’t expect it. I do expect that when Bylaw officers and eventually the police come to tell people to disperse and follow the rules that they be followed. I don’t think that is too big of expectation for a 21 year old.

That’s definitely been my favourite position whenever someone brings it up. “But how is 21 year old supposed to know all these crazy rules?”
I dunno, could start with:
- the never ending news
- it being all of social media
- the sign explaining the rules
- the Bylaw office who arrived and explained the rules
- the police office who arrived and explained the rules
Like I know that the Mom is deaf, it’s a beautiful story and made for an awesome moment at the draft. Didn’t see anywhere that Ocean was also deaf and apparently blind in addition to that. Perhaps because his mother did such an amazing job raising a group of boys without all her senses, Ocean could possibly be bothered to use the ones he has to figure it out?

That's how I see it too. It's very disappointing and frustrating that we have reached this stage with the pandemic considering how much information we had six months ago about the chance of a second wave. The current circumstances were avoidable, but there hasn't been a sufficient collective effort to crush it. Wishy washy guidelines and unclear communications have been part of that. Another part has been people who are uninterested in putting the community interests before their own interests or just haven't taken it very seriously. It makes me sad to see many people really struggling to get through this when we could have been in a very different situation already if there had been a stronger collective effort earlier on.
I greatly favor the option of short-term pain and sacrifice to minimize long-term pain and sustained suffering.
I really dislike what appears in some ways to have been a fatalistic approach towards the virus, like thinking that these things come in waves, so we just need to accept that there will be a second wave instead of prioritizing being collectively proactive to avoid it altogether.

It is a little more common in some parts of the world that if you feel cold or flu symptoms, wearing a mask is a normal thing to do. I can see it becoming a normal thing here after all this. I think I will being doing it.
I used to think it was weird, but having gotten used to it, I say why take the chance of getting someone else sick even if it is a typical cold or flu.

I may have missed it, but I don't think not knowing the rules was even his excuse. He seems to imply that he knew the rules and was taking a stand against them. As others mentioned, bylaw showed up and explained the rules to them before the police got involved and were willing to let everyone go unpunished.
If I am being totally honest, I don't know all the restrictions from week-to-week, but I do know that there are restrictions and I know how to look them up on the interweb. Someone would have to be pretty detached or just plain stupid to not know there are some gathering restrictions at the moment.
