To be paid back in escrow in future years basically.

Quite a deal for the players. Especially ones about to retire.

Has it been verified its "one team" or is it "one province"?

Because if its Alberta or Ontario standing in the way, its a whole other issue, particularly if its Ontario.

Multiple insiders/reporters have said it is BC

So, how would this even work? Would a team like the Canucks commute back and forth between Vancouver—where they live with their families—and Edmonton—where they practise and play games?

I don't see how something like this is feasible, and I think temporarily moving an entire team's-worth of players, personnel and their families to another city for four months is a non-starter.

Would it not be better than moving them to another country to play all their games though?

Seems to me that there are 3 options for them at this point if the BC health authorities are going to be so pedantic versus other provinces..

Play in a Canadian city, play in an American city or dont play at all.

Play in a Canadian city, play in an American city or dont play at all.
But if those are the options, and the BC govt is intractable, then I can't see how this is happening. Simply put: any situation that sees players sequestered from their families for any significant length of time is just not going to work, and neither will it be feasible for players to pack up their family and relocate for a few months.

The team would live out of a hotel when playing their home games in the temporary city. Why would they commute?

Sharks will probably be playing in another city.

What's the other option if BC government says no? A 7 team bubble in Edmonton? All 7 teams move to the US without their families? One team relocating temporarily is the only easy solution.

I guess if you can convince the players to do so. I am really sceptical that this will be a simple sell even in a few markets.

It doesn’t sound like much fun but I think many players would choose to play and earn their salary.

I personally support throwing the Canucks out of the league for a season. If you can't win one championship in 50 years, losing your spot in the league for one seems fair to me.

What is their choice though? Opt out and miss out on their pay? For the amount of money they make, it really isn't that big of a sacrifice and if they view it that way then they can go Hamonic's route.

The Raptors are doing just that for this season. The Blue Jays had to do it last season. Why are hockey players special in this regard?

Then the Canucks players will need to convince the players on 31 other teams not to play.

Good luck with that.

The PA may be a "union" but those other players aren't going to sacrifice their earnings because the Canucks cant play in Vancouver.

Blue Jays and Raptors were not in a Canadian division. Anyone in Canada can do what the hockey players can do when it comes to travel.

Yeah, I guess you are right. That sure would suck, though.

Right, the Raptors and Jays were forced to do it in another country, the Canucks aren't. So even less of an inconvenience.

I guess my question would be do they have a choice? Doesn't sound like anyone asked the Raps/Jays players for permission. I doubt the CBA has anything in it about forced relocation due to a global pandemic.

Being a Canuck already sucks. They should be used to it.

Then shut down flights into Vancouver Airport. This is getting stupid. The risk can be properly managed. It’s places like Surrey they need to be worried about.
