Georgia Runoff Campaign brings out the Fringe element

“Oh golly, I'm glad to get to be here and thaw out,” Palin—who’d flown in from Alaska the night before—told the crowd as she bounded off a double-decker bus and into a stage drenched in Georgia sun.

The former governor and 2008 vice-presidential nominee had been recruited as the headliner for a statewide bus tour, organized by a coalition of conservative advocacy groups, to drum up enthusiasm within the conservative grassroots for Sens. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) and David Perdue (R-GA) ahead of the Senate majority-deciding January runoff elections.

Palin’s words, too, came in a familiar tone—but the content was unmistakably 2020. She reiterated the false claim that the election was “stolen” from President Donald Trump, and connected Loeffler’s early support for confirming Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court with legal efforts to keep Trump in office, despite the clear will of the voters.

“Kelly was the first one to publicly call for confirmation before the election—wise gal—before the election, the rigged election!” said Palin, to cheers. “And I know that's for a whole ‘nother bus stop. But for a rigged election. She had great foresight.”

“We're gonna keep making America great, and Georgia, it's in your hands,” she went on, to cheers. “It's in your hands. The eyes of America, the eyes of the world, are on Georgia, figuring out what it is that you all are going to do—and it is up to you.”

“Kelly is a leader in the Senate, and that Perdue family too, from these parts,” said Palin, in Gainesville. “And I say these parts because, to me, Georgia is just a little tiny sister state to Alaska. These parts, that runs the gamut of mileage around here.” She went on to praise Perdue’s cousin—Sonny, a former Georgia governor and current U.S. Agriculture Secretary—as a “fun governor” and praised him for winning “White House Apprentice,” having survived the entirety of Trump’s first term.

And Palin proved a determined attack dog against the Democratic candidates—specifically going after Raphael Warnock, the Baptist pastor challenging Perdue, who the GOP has increasingly cast as the villain of the runoff. “I am looking at him, saying. how does that work?” said Palin. “A pastor, from the pulpit, who is pro-abortion… who has evidently has never learned that as he’s preaching peace, peace, justice, that peace begins in the womb.”

Broken is really the only way to describe it. They're essentially two separate countries right now, with one side trying to keep democracy intact, while the other side is doing everything in their power to destroy it.

Biden is in for a rough ride over these next 4 years. I'm sure he'll do his best to try and heal the current divide, but sadly it's gonna take at least a decade to even begin to repair the damage that Trump and the GOP have wrought. That country is a disaster right now.

Republicans and Democrats alike should've left him in his corner to stew in his election loss, without a penny of funding, shutting down even the slightest notion that the election was anything but legitimate.

That's how it was supposed to go. People were not supposed to fall for this hail mary con.

Twitter could do the world a solid by shutting his account down. Surely using it to spur on violence and conflict is reason enough.

If I were the people there, I'd feel it would be fully worth the inevitable backlash.

Take away his most effective platform.

Not sure I know what you mean about the Democrats leaving him alone. They mostly have. It's getting to the point I'd wish they'd speak about it directly, but the course of action seems to be 'let him dig his own grave, don't piss off the moderates'. If you want to expand, go ahead.

Twitter is tricky. While I totally agree with you that they should suspend his account (or should have a while ago) once he became president I think that was impossible. Both for their company and possibly not to set off larger dissent. He is still the sitting president. Although many people believe he will get the Regular Joe treatment once January 20th comes. Then he could be suspended or banned like any of us.

There's an interesting story about how Bob Good even became the Republican nominee of that district. The GOP committee in that district cancelled the primary and had a convention in a church parking lot to oust incumbent Republican Denver Riggleman solely because he officiated a same sex wedding.

At least four people were stabbed near Harry’s Bar at 11th and F streets NW, a gathering point for the Proud Boys, a male-chauvinist organization with ties to white nationalism.

The victims were hospitalized and suffered possibly life-threatening injuries, D.C. fire spokesman Doug Buchanan said. It was not immediately clear with which groups the attackers or the injured might have been affiliated.

The violence escalated after an evening of faceoffs with counterprotesters that took place near Harry’s, Black Lives Matter Plaza, Franklin Square, and other spots around downtown.

At first, officers in riot gear successfully kept the two sides apart, even as the groups splintered and roamed. In helmets and bulletproof vests, Proud Boys marched through downtown in militarylike rows, shouting “move out” and “1776!” They became increasingly angry as they wove through streets and alleys, only to find police continuously blocking their course with lines of bikes.

“Both sides of the aisle hate you now. Congratulations,” a Proud Boy shouted at the officers.

But before long, the agitators determined to find trouble were successful — and posturing quickly turned into punching, kicking and wrestling.

Again and again, officers swarmed, pulling the instigators apart, firing chemical irritants and forming lines between the sides. At Harry’s Bar, an ambulance arrived, but the extent of injuries was unknown.

Each time a fight was de-escalated, another soon began in a different part of town.
