And since it’s just opinions of laundry, the stronger the opinion the better.

I associate that jersey and the pedestal abominations with the Young Guns era.....Nothing I really want to celebrate.
I agree with you on the home and away uniforms. Those never should have changed. I also agree that the third should be a nice jersey that gets changed out every 4-5 years or so.

Having said that, I absolutely love the idea of wacky 4th jerseys that only get used 1-2 games/year. Take some risks. Do something kooky like Blasty or a yellow jersey. They won’t all be winners but who cares? It’s all for fun and if you only wear them once or twice it’s a lot easier to stomach an ugly jersey.

I think it was Seinfeld who did the bit about how we really are just cheering for laundry?

Clearly you so you can see style & fashion again!

I'll love these creative, out of the box designs that are colourful and fun, yet balanced. It's cool to see on the ice, but also would be a cool see someone on the street wearing it.

As a 90s black kid, this style resonates with me.

agreed! Might as well go ballistic with these if you only use them once. Loved the 90s stuff for their goofiness ... take the NBA for example, I absolutely loved the Raptors and Grizzlies jerseys back then. Blasty very much fell into that category for me too.

Hell I would be down with the Flames having a disco night and wearing purple jerseys.

I'm a bit surprised at the affection for the snot-horse and a return to Young Guns era threads (which the horse really represents). Didn't care for it when it was released, and then it only got worse when years of failure were associated with it. I feel like there's some kind of hipster-ironic thing going on with all the enthusiasm for Blasty. Hopefully they've seriously re-worked the logo's colour-scheme at least (which looks likely).

For my money, I think I still like BigDogg's white-C pedestal design back on post 244.

Still, I like the idea of having the retro/original uniforms full time, with a 3rd jersey that mixes it up every few years, and the occasional special-event jersey that would appeal to collectors. Keeps things fun, plus there's not much point in buying multiple jerseys of the same design.

Curious to see where this goes, and hoping for a serious re-working of the horse's colours at least.

It was Jerry and there is some truth to it. I collect hats and at the end of the day they are all the exact same hat just different colors.

Still fun though.

Its crazy how polarizing Blasty is, and the pedestals too.
From the moment they were debuted they got hate from the fans who watched the team in the 80's, but for alot of us those are the jerseys we grew up watching the team wear. Sure they don't look as good as the retros, or the 04's, but there is still alot of nostalgia there.

I've heard this line of thinking and it just doesn't make any sense to me.

The Flames had more success with Blasty than they did with the pedestal, but the pedestal you like and Blasty is associated with years of failure? If anything, the pedestal perfectly represents years of complete failure.

Blasty is associated with the Flames team that went to the final. Blasty is associated with some of the most dominant years of Iginla's (our franchise player) career. Kipper, Fleury, Regher all wore Blasty. Blasty represents the Flames turning from yearly failures to Stanley Cup contenders.

There's nothing ironic to it, to me. For the same reason a lot of old timers love the classic set (not just the winning, but the time they fell in love with the Flames) a lot of younger people from their early 20s to their early 30s fell in love with the Flames during that Blasty era. It might have something to do with nostalgia, sure. But whether the Flames sucked for part of the Blasty era or not, it still represents a lot of fantastic memories for a lot of people.

Before I even came to Calgary I was into the NHL, and I liked the Flames in large part because of Blasty. Black jersey with a Flaming horse? What kid wouldn't think that's awesome?

yeah, this. That black Blasty jersey also was a huge part of me becoming a Flames fan in the first place.

I think a lot of it has to do on your age as a fan when they wore the jersey in question. I was a kid when the Flames arrived from Atlanta and my childhood hero’s wore the original jerseys. The changes in jerseys started as the Flames on ice performance slipped and I grew up. I don’t have any nostalgic feelings towards the pedestal or Blasty as for me they are a reminder of a grim era of Flames hockey. I liked the 04 vintage jerseys as they were a clean, modern take but that only lasted a few years. I understand why people like Blasty/Pedestal but its not for me.

Meh, I think Blasty looks stupid. The flames shooting out the nostrils look more like dangling blood-soaked snot rags...
I was hoping for years they would just make a black jersey with the Flaming C...

I'd be curious to see a poll of the 90s and early 2000s jerseys broken down by age group.

As an '80 baby, I remember the Flames going from the Cup winning team in 89, to an exciting but consistently underperforming team in the early 90s, to a team whose stars had all deserted it by the late 90s. I remember them adopting the horse-head logo and the black-dominant uniforms during the Young Guns rebranding, which at the time was basically (to me at least) a desperate effort to maintain fan interest in a team whose stars were all gone, that had virtually nothing in the pipeline, that was going to struggle to compete given the absence of a salary cap, and that was in danger of being shuttered (relocated). When Fleury was traded, I was convinced we might never see another star in Calgary again (or, if the Flames developed one, they'd lose him for salary reasons after a few years). They were seriously dark times to be a Flames fan.

I associate the '04 run with the new black-C jerseys, not Blasty. By that point the horse had been (to my recollection) basically relegated to the shoulder-patch, where it works much better.

Still, the horse as a primary logo will always be associated with dark and desperate times for the Flames (to me, at least). I wonder if perhaps the group that likes it doesn't have these associations, by virtue of being born in the mid 80s or very early 90s instead.

I'm really intrigued to see the new coloring.

I do think that with the shoulder logo now being white instead of red we will see more recoloring on the actual jersey too.

I do think the main color of blasty may end up being white and likely the striping changes a bit too.
