Yang is right about a lot of this, what I don't know is how do you try to help a group of people who are so angry about the world around them changing and see any attempt to deal with that change as a threat. There is a grand chasm of difference between the rural and urban Republican, but the one thing they agree on is Democrats are evil.

The best thing would be to split the left. Let the DNC keep the cities and start a new party that appeals on those policy issues and finds its base outside the cities. Push the RNC further to the margins. Not going to happen in the states, but it would be for the best for them. Also, just getting money out of politics would make a huge difference.
