Had an idea!

I still don't get how Florida can count 10 million ballots so quickly and we're not almost 24 hours later and other states can't get their ##### figured out.

Is WI the only state to be called today? Was hoping at least 2-3 would have been called by now.

Florida started counting those ballots 3 weeks ago. Pennsylvania started last night at 8pm.

They don't look like Republican operatives this time. Just a grassroots rabble. Potentially more dangerous though in the time of social media, as it could go viral and draw further protesters to the mob very quickly. They should have more police on scene.

it's because some states are not allowed to start counting mail-in ballots until election day, therefore it takes them longer.

Florida law allows them to count ballots as they're received, i.e., pre election day. That's not the case in all states (in part, if I'm not mistaken, due to some shady Republican doings at the state level). Pennsylvania is the worst of these. They pretty much start opening envelopes only when the in person voting is wrapping up.

Isn't your post, suggesting you don't care if they move it to 21 (thus removing the right to vote for people 18, 19, or 20) just the same as some arbitrary number in the 80s or 90s? You don't care if they remove it from young people, but you find it unconscionable to remove it from very older people? That doesn't make sense.
I think it's valid that people who will experience the majority of an upcoming presidential term as tax-paying adults should be able to vote.
|
No, you completely missed the point.
All I said about 18 is that there has to be an entry point (I am fairly sure you would agree that 8 year olds shouldn't be granted that right, no?). You could argue that it should be 16, or 17, or 18, or 21. I am good with 18, personally, but regardless, there has to be an entry point. Voting is a right for adults.
That is nothing like removing that right for a particular group of adults.
It is a fundamental tenet of democracy that all (adult) citizens should have the same right to vote, or you don't have a democracy. And I am not going to derail this thread any more by responding any more to it.

Democrats in Pennsylvania asked for a system similar to Florida but state Republicans denied the request and then went the other way to make it more restrictive.

2:00 PM. Biden is closing in Pennsylvania but the runway is shortening, too. The good news is both Philadelphia and Allegheny are sub-80% reported. This could be tight.
Georgia
410,000 votes outstanding. Biden needs 63% of them.
358,000 votes outstanding. Biden needs 62% of them.
Michigan
1,590,000 votes outstanding. Biden needs 60% of them.
453,000 votes outstanding. Biden needs 47% of them.
340,000 votes outstanding. Biden needs 45% of them.
280,000 votes outstanding. Biden needs 40% of them.
North Carolina (Unchanged)
287,000 votes outstanding. Biden needs 64% of them.
Pennsylvania
1,870,000 votes outstanding. Biden needs 69% of them.
1,500,000 votes outstanding. Biden needs 68% of them.
1,440,000 votes outstanding. Biden needs 66% of them.
1,200,000 votes outstanding. Biden needs 65% of them.
Wisconsin
650,000 votes outstanding. Biden needs 60% of them.
102,000 votes outstanding. Biden needs 40% of them.
Biden wins!
Nevada
194,000 votes outstanding. Biden needs 49% of them.
Arizona (Likely already won by Biden)
450,000 votes outstanding. Biden needs 40% of them.

In most states, election officials could start the arduous process that goes into counting mail votes many days before Election Day, but in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, officials had their hands tied by state laws that did not allow for such preparation.
