It's hard to win with non-conservative ideas when the conservatives have become so good at vote blocking Democrats.

This is why that quote about there being a problem with the Americans themselves is the answer to all this. Many are fully not informed when they vote, and are happy to vote based on gut feelings and false rhetoric. Happens all the time.

Apologies if this is an embarrassingly ignorant question but: if I'm a Republican in that district, wouldn't I strategically want to vote for the dead Republican candidate (as opposed to the Democrat candidate) in order to at least force a special election?

If it came down to one State Trump might have more traction but he is telling them to stop counting in some places and keep counting elsewhere
Pretty obvious both sides knew where the numbers where last night based on their speeches

Republicans get to pick a replacement.
In some ways, that's the best thing a Republican could vote for.
That said, I bet 95% of those that voted for him didn't know he was dead.

Exit polling indicates that a vast majority of voters want development of green energy policy.
Expanding ACA may not be popular, but it's better than socialized medicine across the board for Republicans.
Florida just voted to raise the minimum wage overwhelmingly while simultaneously voting in Donald Trump.
Affirmative action is still a grievance? I cannot even think of a single time it was brought up during the election cycle.
Republicans are winning the SCOTUS battle and Biden was not in favor of expanding the court. He had no comment on any of the nominated and confirmed justices under Trump.
So...you just pulled this out of your butt, eh?

His tweets seem to be getting flagged and hidden. What a sham the USA is when the president can act this way for four years.

Yeah in this election it's all about the voters. You can't appeal to these deplorables. 65 million of them voted for a science denying, racist, rapist!
Biden was the only democrat who could have won this election. Imagine if it was Bernie?

Totally, it happens here too...I know so many people that vote blue no matter what. Disabled people living on government programs.
For the record I lean right on most issues, its just ridiculous when people vote blindly against their own interests.

This is the actual calculus, but many posters here would rather fantasize that voters are "stupid" than actually understand why they don't vote the preferred way.

I am disappointed in some of you. This was ALWAYS going to be a close election: incumbent advantage, voter suppression, massive disinformation campaigns, and the out right election tampering/postal service.
We got too caught up in dreams of a landslide reputation of Trumpism, but all the evidence that it will be a long hard slog has been present for some time. But the red haze didn't even last the night, so that was nice imo.

You can argue 65 million voted against cancel culture and identity politics.
There are some ideologies that simply are against what people wish. Trump got the Latino vote in Florida for instance. They voted someone who built a wall to keep Mexicans out. Failing to understand the why is a critical Democrat failure.
This disenfranchising of a demographic of your own population is precisely why 2016 got Trump elected and why he almost won again.

I just said they are possible issues to some Republican, obviously not enough at the Democrats will win.
Green deal is not popular to oil companies/jobs, not in the way it was presented in the debate
ACA is unpopular to some, some like their insurance, yes, the rich upper class.
Minimum wage went up to $10 in Florida, they were talking $15 nationwide
Affirmative action is still a grievance, that's why there are propositions
And Biden has no interest in expending the court but what if he's pressured by his party?
Yes, I admit these are smoking guns, but it's what Republicans view as problems.

We should all just accept and understand that significant portions of the USA wants what Trump is selling. This is a different country with different core values.
