I would disagree with that. Their singles have been the slower-sappier ones but on the last CD they put out, there are some great ones to rock out to. Songs where you have to turn up the volume and go nuts. some great driving songs.

I don't understand the Nickelback hate either, and it's time for me to chime in. They are, maybe, my favorite band. Some others I really like lately.

Nickelback had an excellent CD called the State, which is when I became a serious fan. I picked up their old disc, Curb and gave it a whirl. One thing I have to say is that yes, the longer their career goes on, the more produced sounding they are becoming. Silver Side Up was their 3rd major record and it was released on September 11th, and after that they became popular in the USA. Listen to SSU and then tell me where you have heard that before? Which band did Nickelback copy? Why does every band now copy them? To me, that doesn't make them bad.

Way back when, regardless of how you feel now, they must have had a good song or two that people REQUESTED on the radio. And after a while of being overplayed, because of CANCON, now everyone over-hears their music and says they suck. I would argue that Nickelback has become the defining rock band of this era, and to say they suck is clearly wrong.

Before you bash on an excellent Canadian band, you should be exposed to all their previous work. It's one thing not to like it, and it's another thing to know where it comes from and say "that isn't the music for me." Grow up and be adults about music. I don't say that country music sucks just because it isn't my particular favorite!

I may be biased because I like Nickelback - but I like the song, I like the video - and I love what the band is doing with it.
Like 'em or hate 'em - they're trying to help.

Personally, I like them, but calling them a "defining band" is a bit ridiculous.

They are a good band that sells themselves well. Its one thing to blame their overplaying on CANCON, but fact is, How You Remind Me was the most played song in the US for an entire year, and they remain pretty big across the world, several years after its release.

They are where they are now because they have the talent to get them there. Love them or hate them, but I think they deserve respect for starting off in a hole in the ground that is Hanna, and ending up one of the biggest rock bands in the world.

I really don't want to get involved in a "I hate/I love" Nickelback discussion except to say that as a Calgarian/Albertan, it's nice to have a band from around these parts doing so well worldwide. In spite of what they may do/not do, you really can't take away from the fact that they're hitting the charts - they must be doing something right (or maybe it's just cause Chad looks so good).

I don't think "hitting the charts" is very good criteria in measuring quality.

Other bands "hitting the charts":

Milli Vanilli
New Kids On The Block
Britney Spears
Limp Bizkit

Point made and taken...would "gaining notoriety" work better?

Ha ha ha. I forgot about that. What a jackass. Good lyrics though.

Nevermind/

repeat last verse

Limp Bizkit is partially responsible for the crappy music I go past on Muchmusic now and for that they should be ashamed. Tattoos are not a replacement for talent.

My biggest issue with Nickelback was that CJay overplayed them and Creed for months. It seemed that every other song was Creed of Nickelback and that's when I stopped listening to CJ.

Some Nickelback songs are really good, but when they got popular it seems like they decided to just stick with their formula. If you like that formula, you'll like their stuff. If you didn't like their formula, that's fine too but that doesn't make them "bad".

I would hope that now that Nickelback has some money that they would perhaps try a few different sounds, but if they are happy and they make a lot of fans happy then there is nothing inherently wrong with that either.

Ugh, enough threads about this horrendous abortion of a band.

geez, didn't think starting this thread would start such a hate on for that band... It is more or less the video I was complimenting the most. It was in my early childohood I remember these stories from and I of course did not appreciate it at the time like I do now!

Btw, this was a thread about a song/video - not the band itself.

I watch videos not because of the Band, but about the song and/or video instead.
Put your feelings about the band aside and focus on the video, I think its pretty good.

It's pretty much a guarantee that when you post a thread that has the word Nickelback in it along with a few other bands you're going to get bashing about the band itself.

I'm not a fan of theirs but I dont hate them either. Like Jordan I dont really think they're as bad as some people make them out to be.

Ha, are you kidding? You've been around long enough to know that any Nickleback thread will turn into a sh*tstorm after about 3 posts. It's about as predictable as a Theoren Fleury comeback special. So beware in the future!

What's good about the video? it has horrible typography, cheesy visuals, and is so bloody obvious it hurts....I dont think they could have tried any harder to hit you over the head with the message.

If you want to see what a good video truly looks like, atleast check out some Michel Gondry or something.
