We clearly weren't watching the same debate. Trump made a complete arse of himself for the entire 90 minutes IMO. He started a bit more reserved than usual, sure. But the longer it went on, the more bats**t crazy and ridiculous his answers became.
Biden was at his best tonight and absolutely demolished Trump on substance and the actual issues, particularly on Covid and health care.

I'm a client with one particular business run by pro-Trump folks.
Good people, but when they get started on it I feel like I need to pinch myself. You'd think they were imprisoned for years and endured Chinese torture to believe some of the fictitious storylines as wholeheartedly as they do. It's honestly surreal.
If you saw a victory for Trump just now, well that's your take, but I think you might be seeing a very different world/reality than many of us are.

His words and plans were either hollow or lies, but the only people that care about that were never going to vote for him anyway.
Biden won on content. Trump is the net winner, though.

Even if he did (and I'm highly skeptical), the thing is Trump was losing the race by 7.5 points in the aggregate before the first debate, and after his debate performance, the covid test and everything, that drew that deficit up to 10 points. Even if Trump earns back every single one of those voters that he lost since that first debate, that still puts him massively outside where he needs to be.
To use a lame sports metaphor, Trump went into the fourth quarter down 14, promptly gave up a touchdown, and then put together a 10-minute drive that might have netted him a touchdown but more likely a field goal and maybe even a turnover on downs.

I thoroughly enjoyed that. I watched with my conservative, climate change denying brother-in-law and his family. We mostly kept things civil ha ha.
Trump did okay imo. Biden was better than I'd hoped.

As far as summing up the state of American media, the WSJ's opinion page saying Hunter Biden is guilty, on the same day it's news side says it's all bull####, is a good way to do it.

Trump won an election by the slimmest of margins against a universally disliked candidate who was under investigation by the FBI...Oh yeah and a Women. The entire media was saying there was no way he could win which kept people from waiting in long lines to vote and pushed people to third parties (why not? its not like Trump can win)
Biden is winning this election and it wont even be close
And I'm no expert but if I won a nationally televised debate I doubt #dino7cMeltDown would be trending on twitter, probably not the sign of a guy who just won anything

In watching this debate, there's another difference between the candidates that I really do appreciate. When asked about the crime bill, when asked about the Obama administration's take on immigration: Biden will admit when he was wrong. He will admit that he's done things in the past that he would like to change now.
Trump would never, ever admit to being wrong about anything. Trump will change course, sure, but he will just lie and say it's what he always believed and he'll ignore any evidence to the contrary.
Biden will say he was wrong and he appears to be willing to learn from his past.

Trump probably did enough to hold onto his hard core base. At the same time I highly doubt he did anything that encouraged the undecided to vote for him.
Biden on the other hand held his own and did nothing to discourage people from voting for him.

It's amazing that Trump will be fact checked and shown to lie about almost every single thing he talked about tonight and still see so many people say he did pretty well.
Debates now have nothing to do with truth or honesty or policies, it's all about showmanship. How sad.
Taxes - will show them one day.
Health care - will have something beautiful for the people eventually.
Kids in cages cannot find their parents = good
Least racist person in the room, best president for black people ever, maybe except for Lincoln, but it's close.
Conspiracy theory about Biden and his son
Have done a good job with Covid, saved 2.2 million lives, rounding the curve
Nobody has been tougher on Putin and Russia
.........and he did well? What the hell was I watching?

*woman - but good points. I think you're right. The more people get up off their couches to put in their ballots this time the smaller Trumps chances get.
Attempting to discourage/suppress voting by mail or otherwise is Trump and his supporters only hope really, because they simply do not represent the majority, and never have. The difference last time was no one took him seriously.

He didn't win IMO
Trump rambled on and on about how bad Obama care is but the reality is he has no concrete plan to replace it. It's been 4 years of fear mongering from him and he still has ziltch.
As my brother from Minnesota often says to me. His gums keep moving but nothing of substance is coming out of his mouth

Well, it isn’t debatable. Not in any near term timeframe at any rate. Not unless you and everyone else on Earth wants lower qualities of lives, which they don’t and nobody is serious about.
I recommend researching energy, it’s use, demand and precisely what types of things oil and gas provide. It’s a hell of a long list that’s a hell of a lot short on substitutes that don’t otherwise also destroy the planet- and that’s if they exist at all. Any chatter about a quick transition away from oil, and by quick I mean like the next 30-40 years, is unlikely IMO.
Hell we are still working on phasing out coal let alone oil and gas. In fact I think gas consumption is set to grow not shrink. But sure let’s continue to all pretend we care about the environment and climate change and not do anything about it because it means a massive, enormous change to our lives to the massive, enormous downside.
Anyway I look forward to your response from your almost entirely oil and gas supplied life about how you want it phased out but don’t understand what it is or what it does or how much of it you rely on. Again, I recommend some thorough research on all the products and pieces of your life that rely on it, then let’s start the debate. But there is no debate with idealist nonsense based on hyper groupthink popular commentary about “the transition “. Nobody is ready or really willing to “transition”.

My defining memory of Trump, before he became the worst US President in history, was a particular episode of the Apprentice.
It was the second last episode of the season, down to the final three, and they had collected in the boardroom to finish that day.
Two women remained, sitting on opposite ends, with the lone man sandwiched in the middle. To steal from Seinfeld, it instantly became an absolute catfight. The two woman screaming at eachother, interrupting, insulting, offering minimal substance and maximum volume.
The man just sat in the middle, shaking his head, impossible to get a word in edge wise. Any direct question he tried to answer was immediately cut off by the shrieking women beside him.
Finally in his deliberation, Trump asked him why he didn’t have much to say. And his response was something like “there is a time to talk, and there is a time to listen”.
Translated into, I’m not going to scream overtop of these two crazy people and contribute to the insanity.
He was fired. The two women went on to the final.
Watching that unbelievable scene, it perfectly illustrated how Trump perceives “debating”. What an ass clown.
