The Canadiens have had interest in Toffoli for a while, including trying to trade for him prior to LA moving him to VAN last season.
Montreal is now $353,000 over the cap, but there's been continued talk of Mete & Byron being on the block. Nothing imminent, I believe.

Mete is really underrated, I wouldn't mind adding him.

The more i see teams signing UFa's below regular market value, the more i think the flames aren't having that good of an off season. This was the time to take adavantage and the 2 players they signed are pretty much on par for regular market value. Maybe Markstom was a tiny bit bellow but he did manage to get 6 year term.

I'm just glad we landed them. If this was any other year, we probably have to bid above market value just to get them.

They need to shed space too so adding Hanifin’s 4.95 and only subtracting 3.75 in Gallagher doesn’t help them.
Byron + Gallagher + Mete for Hanifin + 2nd
That’s about 8 mill out and 4.95 in which helps them with the cap crunch but would put the Flames in a similar position where we would need to deal Ryan without taking space back.

Some may be wanting this style change - in some respects I can totally understand - winning in the playoffs is all that matters - but I think you can win with a puck possession, offensive game that is fun to watch.
What style of hockey do the moves, coaching decision intimate?

I guess it depends on how you look at it. How does he look compared to the Bobrovsky signing. Last season he would’ve gotten around $8M per. It’s all relative I guess.
It sucks that the Flames don’t really have much cap space to go hunting for good bargain contracts. That said most of the playoff teams from last season are in the same position. They either moved good players for small return, or remained relatively unchanged. Edmonton signed multiple great contracts, but they ended up resigning Smith. I think they would’ve been happier having Markstrom, without the bargain contracts.

Dont know if I agree with the above...but this is a train of thought. Load up at the deadline and make significant changes at the draft next year if necessary...

It's certainly an argument that can be made.
Game 2 they lose 5-4, Talbot with an .861 SP
Game 4 they lose 5-4 in OT. One more save and that is a W
If they win either of those games, the series is 3-1
Game 6, they are up 3-0, then give up 7 goals on 24 shots.
With a top goalie, they probably - or at least very possibly - win that series.

Gallagher should be a priority target for Treliving IMO

Ottawa has to fill 7 roster spots and under 7 million away from the floor. They won't have an issue being compliant by puck drop.

Their 4 RFA forwards will get them to the cap floor. I suspect they still have an offer out to Duclair as well that may eventually be accepted. If there are low cost, high cap dumps they may look at it, but getting to the floor will not be a problem.

As a brief aside, is anyone else incapable of reading “Mete” without hearing it in Tony Schiavone’s “It’s the YET-TAY!” voice...?
