Did you think the team was gonna run with Kylington on the second pairing? Tanev replaces Brodie. If the braintrust wants to change up the forwards, they still can. But it will have to involve a hockey trade.

And Hall said it was all about going somewhere he can win.
This is professional sports. It’s a business. Nothing any of these guys say publicly means anything. Not anything they say about the coaches. Not anything they say about the cities they play in. Not anything they say about contracts.

Because we don’t have Eichel at centre.
He wants to have great season, he is where that can happen.
Plus likely Calgary didn’t have the cap room.

Gotta think more than a couple surprise players take closer to league minimum deals as money runs out across the league.

I'm sure Hall wanted to go to a team that can win until he realized the offers were not even close to what Buffalo was offering. It's not black and white...

I know that both are a total long shot, but there is no way that BT is not having those conversations right now.

They will have no problem reaching the cap floor once they fill out their roster.
Lucic can’t be moved without a massive sweetener or equivalent cap coming back.

^^ Why not stay in Arizona then?
Vezina caliber goaltending. Talented line mates (sure, not Eichel quality)
Probably would have paid at least $8M for the year if not guaranteed him that over 8 years.
Just an odd decision.
Speaking of..just read Toffoli to Montreal?

Eklund is reporting that Toffoli is talking a short term deal with Edmonton so I expect him to sign in Calgary shortly 😂

You answered your own question.
Not Eichel caliber.
Plus I assume he wanted to be in the east.

Yeah, his website is like reading the tabloids while waiting in line at the grocery store, you know it's fake but it's still fun to read 😂.

One, he could get insurance to cover some of that risk.
Secondly, we don think know exactly what the cash and cap starved Arizona may have offered, and whether they even made an offer.
Plus, thirdly, it’s entirely possible that Hall had zero interest in living in Arizona.

They totally made him offers. Several. Wined and dined him when they made the ownership change. Reports of max term/dollar offers.
You could be right. Guy just hated Arizona. But that's a lot of hate.

Paul Byron on the block?
David Pagnotta @TheFourthPeriod
The Canadiens have had interest in Toffoli for a while, including trying to trade for him prior to LA moving him to VAN last season.
Montreal is now $353,000 over the cap, but there's been continued talk of Mete & Byron being on the block. Nothing imminent, I believe.

Honestly, they just added Toffoli and Anderson to the right side. Gallagher is not a third line player.
