I think the Flames will miss Brodie. I thought he brought a calming presence to the backend and could skate out of trouble. Brodano was one of the top pairings for so many years.

Best of luck TJ & family!

Good luck TJ. I will miss seeing you play. I think you were definitely over blamed for problems and under praised for your body of work.

Damn.

I didn't think I'd be emotional over this news, but I am a little. I guess there's just so much history with T.J. on the team that I forget how much he's meant for so long. He's under the radar, both with his play and demeanor, but damn if he isn't an excellent player and excellent human.

I am always going to vividly remember 2014/15 when Giordano went down with that freak bicep injury heading into the playoffs. Brodie became the de facto #1 defenseman with Dennis Wideman as his partner of all people. That should have been a recipe for disaster, but it was quite the opposite. They were soo good against Vancouver in that playoff series. Brodie had 5 points in 11 games and was a + 3 despite losing in the 2nd round pretty easily to Anaheim.

I went to check and Brodie is 9th all time in games played for the franchise. That's a notable contribution, and I think we should all stop for a second and appreciate this underrated player.

I became an ever-so-slight Leaf fan today, and before now I would wish nothing but the worst for them. I just can't help it, I love that guy so much. I wish nothing but the best for him and his family. I'm glad he gets to go home.

Good luck T.J., you will be missed.

It’s an enormous loss. They really have nobody ready to take on Brodie’s responsibility, but fate does not wait for you to be ready.

Well, one thing for sure he obviously isn’t worried about winning the cup if he chose Toronto... lol

TJ was probably going to the leafs no matter what. Growing up in Ontario and all. Getting 20 million to play for the leafs.... the flames could have offered double and I’m not sure he would have stayed.

Quite likely that he will be the next ‘former flame’ to lift the cup in a different uniform. The leafs just need defence and Brodie is a huge step forward for them

I know that’s the line here, but the leafs just got a lot better today.

I wonder if this logic will work out for Hall, Point, and Makar, among others.

You realize he signed with the leafs right?

Huge loss. Maybe he'll finally be appreciated for the elite skillset and impact he brings. Going to be more painful going up against McDavid now with the current D corps

Well yeah, but going from mediocre to decent is a lot better, doesn’t really mean much though

This is a good contract would have been fine with the Flames doing this.

Leafs never really in the mix for Pietrangelo I suppose

I think it’s likely he was only still negotiating with the Flames in the case the Leafs didn’t make an acceptable offer. Once they did it was game over.

This is good value for Toronto.

Hopefully Rasmus is up to the challenge if he goes to the top pairing with Gio. They probably have to sign someone to play with Hanifin though.

No it won’t. Odd thing about Alberta.... people say they love it here ... until they leave and never look back.

Ugh, you keep saying that.

Who just left Vancouver to move to this hellhole Calgary?

I swore at Brodie's gaffs like we all did, but I also saw him control McDavid in a way that I'm not sure any other defender in the league has done, so for that alone, I think we'll miss him badly.

I'm fine with Gio/Anderssen as a top pair, but that's not two elite skaters, it's just good solid D-men.

What happens now with the rest of the slotting will be interesting. I find it odd that a team which had to slot in 2 last-second pick-ups in Gustaffson and Forbort wouldn't have been REALLY keen to keep Brodie.

Hopefully something else is in the works.

Jesus Christ. These are free agents man.

The “real deal” followed the money to Calgary and he’s about as Hollywood as it gets. I don’t think people are bailing on Alberta.

For all the things we argue about on here, I kind of thought there was some shared love for the city. Yeah Treliving sucks, Sigalet is incompetent, Flames are doomed to mediocrity...

But we all kind of love Calgary right?
