Had high hopes that the Flames would bring Brodie back. Plus we now lose BigBrodieFan also.
A sad day all the way around

Always tough to lose those career Flames.
In fact (genuinely curious) who is the last player we drafted, developed, played here for 600+ games and then walked in free agency?
I can’t recall a comparable. There’s probably an obvious one I’m not thinking of

Just like Jake Muzzin, he has a no-movement clause for next season which then converts to a limited no-trade clause.

Hmmm. I, like others, assumed that was the difference between the Maple Leafs' and Flames' offers. Somewhat surprised the Flames didn't match this (and maybe they did and he chose blue) given there is a massive hole to fill on the right side now.

Tough but that’s sports. All teams lose players to free agency that fans would rather keep.
I remember Brodie as a rookie. Will go down as a great Flame.
Hope will still hear from you BBF!

I know everyone loved him but they should have traded him at the deadline. Unless your team is a legit contender you should look at trading pending UFA'S at the deadline.

Well I’m disappointed. This is pretty good value for Toronto and I would have matched this, or added another year frankly.
But maybe he wanted to be in Toronto.
This is a big loss for the Flames. And unfortunately didn’t get anything for it, really the first time this has happened in several years.

I've always like Brodie and his skating and puck movement. I think being left with a deteriorating Gio is going to leave the team exposed, just as we have good goal tending. (obviously more moves need to be made)

This is a sad day.
This leave a giant hole on the blueline that's going to be hard to fill. TJ was a very good defender who had his oopsie moments but also played a lot of hard minutes. He was a high impact player who came out of the Flames system when the system was really struggling to product much of anything in the way of NHL players.
It's a shame they couldnt find a way to bring him back, but I wish TJ the best of luck. He played a lot of really good hockey for this team and he deserves this contract.
This also provides the Flames with an opportunity to maybe find someone with more od a physical style to play in their top 4 as I feel the Flames currently have a good group of D, but they all seem to play a similar style of game.
The team definitely needs to find themselves someone who can QB the PP, but they could also use some size on their back end to help clear the crease and win battles down low.

Home opener, 2017. Brodie scores two goals and adds two assists in a 6-3 win over the Jets. By the third period the Dome is chanting Brodie's name (well, at least they were in the press level). Good times.
Going to miss him as he's a solid player and seemed to fit in well in the room. Interestingly he never really thrived on the PP or PK but 5-on-5 he could play with anyone in the league. I have to think the Flames were willing to pay him something comparable; the term and AAV are both very reasonable.

I agree with Francis; Brodie is going to have a tough time in Toronto if he continues his proclivity turnovers

You don’t trade an important part of you team when you are a contender. No team does that.

One of my all time fav Flames and seeing TJ move on is such an odd feeling; super sad to see him go honestly and would have loved him at that term and AAV. Last remaining Sutter draft pick is Backlund no?? Man I’m getting old lol!
And BigBrodieFan you are an absolute gem and please feel free to stop in still from time to time we love rival fans I’ll be cheering for Brodie always accept when he plays the Flames of course!
