True, but if he doesn't get those opportunities he will quite possibly remain what he is, a good contributor to 5x5 play that gets 30-40 points per year. Nothing wrong with that, all teams need those guys to contribute also.

Yes, there were teams later in the first round and start of the 2nd that were looking at him (MTL being one of them I believe)

It's not like this was some unranked bum, but hey, hyperbole is fun right?

The rumour at the time was Montreal at 24 I think.

As soon as he knew he was being shopped and not a coddled, protected asset, his play changed considerably. That speaks volumes. That should make you play your heart out, not disappear. Hit the bricks!

It isn't the wasted draft pick that is an issue here, it is too many years of development that was wasted on him.

You need the pipeline to he hungry, not entitled.

What a coincidence, I also want to see him have a fresh start elsewhere.

Did you eat beans before this massive pile of #### you dumped?

"Too many years wasted on development".... Spends 2 years in the AHL
When was Jankowski ever a protected asset? When was he coddled?

Did knowing he was traded and have it fall through hurt his confidence? Possibly. After all, it's the first time in his career he's ever had to deal with that and players that have been around much longer also have things like that impact their play. You also left out that fact that his ES-TOI dropped by about 90 seconds and he started playing with considerably worse linemates than he had the season before and his offensive zone starts dropped from 52.6% to 44.2%

Anything we ever heard about Jankowski during those "wasted years" of development, was how hard of a worker he is.

There is literally zero reason to think Jankowski is entitled.

That was Poirier in 2013. Montreal had the 25th pick and were thought to have Poirier ranked high. That's why the Flames grabbed him at 22 instead of waiting for 28th even though he was ranked as a mid-late second rounder on most lists.

For Jankowski, I believe it was New Jersey who was considered the threat to grab him. The Devils had the 29th overall pick that year. Montreal didn't have a late first rounder in 2012.

I really don’t know what happened to him. He scored 13 and 14 goals the two years prior (I know it was 17 but 4 came in the last game of the season against a Vegas team clearly mailing it in).

He wasn’t setting the world on fire or anything but he looked like he was turning into a very serviceable bottom-6 C.

He just fell off a cliff this season in every facet of the game.

He is a bust. Not the end of the world. I think I may of called this back in the day, but I'm not sure.

Players need opportunity. If the ice time is not there it's hard to produce let alone grow production YoY. Obviously you control your ice time with play but his role changed (3C to 4C).

Did he struggle? Obviously but you don't lose ability in your 20s. It's mental and has to do with opportunity. He didn't have a great year but players bounce back - I like his skillset.

I know most will be happy to cut ties but not me. I'm obviously no expert but Janko is a cerebral player (he's what he is - middle six player so I'm not exaggerating his abilities) and I'm thinking the team wants some more jam from 4C.

Best of luck Janko!
No one is playing Janko on the second line. He is really a fourth liner who has shown flashes at being a third liner. He has little upside given his age and no jam. Good teams want developing players with upside on their third and fourth lines. Guys like Mangiapane and Dube. They also want guys with jam.

Makes sense there was no room for Janko. For league minimum or a 2 way deal, he'd be decent depth. For 2 million, a complete waste of money.

I'd be shocked if anyone pays him his qualifying offer.

More rope than 9 out of 10 Flames prospects are given.

As a Flames fan, I'm glad the Janko project is finally over. What did you expect the organization to tell you? This guy we groomed for years still doesn't get it? Of course they told you he was "working hard"

I think the trade that fell through ####ed with his head and it caused him to get off to a terrible start. By the time he started playing better, he was already in the dog house and couldn't get out.

Simple. He's not good enough to elevate his game at a young age after finding a small amount of success that he could feed off.

He has only played 3 seasons and actually the first 2 were pretty good. Double digits in both goals and assists in 2019. So he actually improved in his sophomore season. It was only his last season where he put up a turd of a season and began to fall out of the lineup. His playoff stat line also sucks, so not really a guy you can depend on in the playoffs to be a hero on occasion.

I don't think he's pure garbage like some have said. But no doubt it's been disappointing given how much time the Flames put towards his development. They gave him the long route to finish college, then time in the AHL to develop. He had a decent rookie and better sophomore season. I'm not sure what the team could have done better to develop him as it seems they did it by the book.

At some point the onus is on the player to take the next step. If he ever hopes to get his career on track again it will have to be with another team, and I think he could play well for someone else.

Janko showed last season (not the one just completed) what he is capable of, by what he achieved.

32 points including 8 short handed points when given only 4th line minutes and no PP time is really quite good. I mean very, very good. Last year I remember them talking before the season about how many shorties they were going to get.

That did not earn him anything. Peters was no good. Eric Staal can vouch. I can see how he would be a bit discouraged too.

Flames select the assets they want to develop, and he isn’t one. (And they frankly are not that hot at it)

No problem him wanting to look elsewhere. The Flames don’t have a plan for him and his agent should be all over that. There are millions of dollars and a whole career at stake.
