With Stamkos's injury history I don't think he's worth that much either.

No one (including the Flames) bit on Fleury + 2nd for nothing. Why do the Flames now add Ryan?
I would consider Fleury + 2nd, 25% retained, for nothing, if we miss out on Markstrom.
But my first response is a giant no to Fleury, period.

I think it could be gone about a couple ways. Swap the 1st for a 3rd/4th and I think it's close. Or, remove the first outright and take Johnson too. I think saving $7m in the deal would really appeal to Tampa.
We could make it work too. The following scenario leave about 110k in cap space
to CGY: Stamkos, Johnson
to TBL: Gaudreau, Kylington
to CGY: Best possible pick (5th?)
to ???: Ryan
to CGY: Ristolainen, 3rd in '20 (#99)
to BUF: Backlund
Re-sign Mangiapane 2 x 2.500m
Re-sign Rieder & Quine 1 x 0.700m
Sign Markstrom 7 x 5.000m (tacked on a couple extra years to ensure we can get him for 5m AAV)
Sign Galchenyuk 1 x 1.750m
Sign Boyle 1 x 0.850m
Tkachuk - Stamkos - Lindholm
Galchenyuk - Monahan - Johnson
Mangiapane - Bennett - Dube
Lucic - Boyle - Rieder
Quine
Giordano - Andersson
Hanifin - Ristolainen
Valimaki - Mackey
Stone
Markstrom
Rittich

Didn't know where to put this but seems like the best place.
It appears that Arizona are not giving a QO to V Hinostoroza, which surprises me, but might be worth watching as a possible cheap addition.

People really blow his injury history out of proportion. He's had 3 major injuries in his career. A broken leg, a knee injury and now a "core" injury that he had surgery on and came back too soon from.

Three seasons out of 12 where he has missed significant time due to injury. Is he really a high risk for injury?

Dreger on TSN Radio just said that he has heard Calgary has interest in Tyson Barrie.
That shouldn’t be a surprise to us. There were rumours during the season of a Brodie for Barrie trade.

Insider trading:
Jets aren't just selling Laine they want a top 2 C or top 2 D in return
Flyers are the team that are most engaged with the Jets and were perhaps offering a d-man but that has cooled
Flyers do not have any interest in paying Pietrangelo on a long term deal
Hoffman appears to be heading to free agency but the Panthers let Hoffman's camp that if they could move salary they would circle back.
Some of the teams in on Hall will target Hoffman if they miss on Hall
Hall is going to take his time on free agency
Will be taking zoom presentations on Friday and Saturday
Told NYR have no intention of moving the 1st OA pick

I think Barrie could be a great candidate to rebound so I think he will want a short term deal

Per his agent, OEL has put a Friday deadline on a trade. If he isn't dealt to either Vancouver or Boston by Friday he will close up shop and stay in Arizona.
Let's all hold hands and keep praying! It's working!

Maybe Fleury (2m retained) a 2nd and 3rd? I'd have to consider that. Vet goalie, good in the room, Rittich is still around, and you add draft capital..
|
Fair points. I thought about this a bit more after and if they aren't getting calls back on Fleury + 2nd, maybe we can get their 1st and a prospect (Roy?) if we eat the whole thing and bail out a divisional rival. Because I don't think it cripples us if we have a $7m goalie.

I fully suspect Barrie is our #1 target and we re-sign Brodie if Barrie declines.

Laine for Patrick, Myers, 1st
Johnny and Bennett for Konecny, Frost, Zumula
Flyers nab the 2 best wingers on the trade market while vastly improving their offense. They move their best 2 young centers and bit get Bennett back in the deal
Jets get their right shot D, hometown center and a pick.
Flames get a great young top 6 forward signed long term, they get a right shot D prospect and an expansion exempt center who steps into the 3rd line spot this year and hopefully will push for a top 6 role in the years that come.

For some reason I don’t have a good feeling about Barrie. I would prefer to sign Brodie instead. Maybe it’s just because I am comfortable with Brodie here.
I am not sure that Barrie moves the needle significantly more than Brodie, considering he will likely be a higher cap hit.
I am sure some of the more savvy posters can find advanced stats that might say different.

You know Benning is going to get him.
Quick all Flames fans, let's grab a goat and sacrifice it to scorch to make this happen!

I have been wondering the same thing. My target would be Calgarian Peyton Krebs.
Krebs+Fleury (2m retained) for our 3rd?

I feel the same.
Rather Brodie big time.
If we get frustrated with Brodie's defensive brain farts just wait to see Barrie's.

No! We must work together, not against each other! No OEL! OEL is Arizona! Say it with me now!
