Yeah, that whole system got a little abused and they had to kybosh it.

I remember hearing that Toronto did that as a make-up to Button after the botched Stoll trade. They could have traded his rights to any team lower than the Flames and got a slightly better pick, but they felt bad for the error causing the Flames to lose Stoll for nothing. It allowed the Flames to at least move up in the round.

Interesting. So do we even know what Hall’s posture is, insofar as negotiating with teams before UFA?

Honestly, why not trade a 7th round pick for his rights. Gives an extra 5 days to convince him and sets you up nicely even if he goes to Free Agency.

Nope. The only thing that has actually been reported is that Hall will be willing to listen to different types of contract proposals.

That actually isn't true.

If Edmonton keeps their pick in 2020, we can trade their pick in 2021 for Hall.

It seems like this is kind of late to trade for negotiation rights.
Gotta think most players would just wait until FA since they've made it this far.

Alternatively, trading for said players rights could solidify a teams commitment to that player perhaps inspiring some loyalty. With the idea floating in the air that Hall has always wanted to play for the Flames, it'd really put things into perspective for him. I.e. they want me as much I I've always to be there.

Also, how much does he have to pay Rasmus for the #4?

I'm not sure it will cost much, Ras has been all over the place for numbers. #19 in Barrie, #14 in Stockton, #4 (and 54) in Calgary. He also wore #38 in the prospects game, he's also worn #5 and #6 in international competition.

Fairly common price for a number is a Rolex. as a standard practice thats what most guys get from what i've heard.

based on Rasmus's lack of number care hes more in line for a Bulova from the latest score n' win

Ras has worn a bunch of numbers, but 4 is a pretty special number for a D.

If we land Hall, and Brodie goes to free agency...

Hall takes #4
Tkachuk takes #7
Andersson takes #19

They don't have any talented wingers...at all. It makes some sense, just not really from a cap perspective. Just Maguire speculating though.

Hockey gods, I hope we land Hall.

There was a rumor I heard if the Oil couldn’t get a deal with Nuge they would move him for futures and take a run at Hall

Why the hell would he go back to the Oilers?

He might have been the only player in NHL history to be sad to leave the Oilers..
