That said, if there was similar potential for say... Monahan & Kylington for Eichel... sign me up.
But of course, that's a ridiculously lowball offer, same as the Rangers, so we can all carry on.

Yup, I just thought it was funny.
Monahan + Hanifin for Eichel. Get it booked.

Never forget, the Flames offered more for Jay Beagle and he chose to take less to not play there =-o.
Could it happen? Sure. Will it happen? Maybe. Could they build off that thanks to having that veteran leadership keeping the team honest? Yep.

The Canucks are so great you spend all your time on a Flames message board for some reason

I think as a flames fan, with so much cost uncertainty in pro sports right now, we should be preparing for a free agency letdown. Ownership has been a little stingy in recent years, and with the uncertainty around what’s happening next year I don’t think they take the risk and sign anyone to a big contract. Of the rumours of Hall are true and he’s considering signing a short term deal it’s because his agents have told him money may be tight and he may need to try over again next year to strike it rich. Maybe some wealthy teams will dive right in but I can’t see this ownership group really opening the vault under these circumstances.

Jay Beagle wanted to play for the Flames, it was the Flames that did not want him.

Josh Anderson and Jake Virtanen are two RWs i'd like to add. Both have good speed, size, physicality and goalscoring ability. Adding two RHS with these attributes above would make us more difficult to play against and wouldn't cost us the farm.
Johnny - Monahan - Anderson
Tkatchuk - Backlund - Lindholm
Mangi - Bennett - Virtanen
I like the looks of that top 9. Good mix of skill and size.

Someone's gotta keep you crazy folk that think you're getting Hall, Markstrom and Pietrangelo honest! Plus I am proselytizing!

Pretty sure it's the other way around, but okay.

You should be more worried about your team losing their best player for nothing

I can see an argument for Hanifin being better than Carlo, but DeBrusk is absolutely better than Mangiapane.

I did have a legit dream the Canucks traded Pettersson 1-for-1 for Gaudreau, and it made me really sad.

There is definitely an argument to be made for Mangiapane.
Here's how they compared 5v5 last season (Mangiapane left, DeBrusk right):
Goals: 15 vs 12
Goals/60: 1.04 vs 0.86
Primary Assists: 11 vs 6
Primary Assists/60: 0.77 vs 0.43
Points: 29 vs 23
Points/60: 2.02 vs 1.65
ixGF/60: 0.80 vs 0.75
iSCF/60: 9.40 vs 8.04
iHDCF/60: 4.25 vs 3.66
Mangiapane was much better across the board 5v5.
On top of being much better from an individual standpoint, Mangiapane also had significantly better possession and scoring chance rates than DeBrusk.

I don’t think Virtanen is that great of an add personally. Would rather keep Dube in that spot.
I like the idea of adding Anderson though!

Genuinely curious if you have evidence for this. I don't remember the Flames being linked to Beagle at all other than the "he's from Calgary so maybe..." radio speculation that pops up everytime a home town kid becomes a free agent. But its been a few years and my brains been abused by drugs and watching a mediocre hockey team for 30 years.
As I remember it Calgary was linked to Derek Ryan pretty early on and Beagle was linked to the Canucks shortly after it was announced he was going to be a free agent.

I'm actually trying to remember where I saw it, so I may have just made it up. I'm almost positive it was something that ended up on the Canucks subreddit at some point, but can't find it to save my gosh darn life.

Ok, an argument can be made, but I personally would take DeBrusk 10/10 times. Although I think they would compliment each other nicely on the ice.
Let's also not forget that Mangiapane spent the Season with Tkachuk and Backlund, while Debrusk was with Krejci and whomever was the winger of the week, of which Kuhlman was the most common.
And I don't really care about per 60, because offensive production is not linear like that. DeBrusk outproduced Mangiapane overall playing with lesser linemates. He's also more physical and unlike Mangiapane doesn't fall 3x a shift.

This is much better than a Debrusk/ Hanifin swap.
But I expect we will regret trading Hanifin.
Debrusk is just OK. Wingers peak earlier than dmen.

I know hits aren't the end all be all of measuring physical play, but Mangiapane had 73 hits compared to Debrusk 35.

Is this that true anymore? In recent years, more and more, we've started to see a lot of young d-men buck this trend and step into the NHL ready to go. Especially young d-men with high pedigree, which Hanafin was touted to be.
