Vasilevskiy was the highest-paid player on the Lightning this season (tied for the highest cap hit with Kucherov) and was the highest-paid goalie (3rd-highest cap hit) in the entire league.
------
Actually, I got tripped-up by Cap Friendly showing the 2020-21 season already. Those things will be true next season... So, I guess the Lightning have no chance of repeating. That's good to know.

Question: if we traded for Vasilevski, would he no longer be a goalie you can win with?

If anything all this does is highlight how hard it is to pry goalie talent away from teams.

I think we got a good bang for our buck out of them and I wouldn't be opposed to keeping them both.
But the team around them needs to better. It's a good goalie tandem if the team is great. If the rest of the roster isn't improved, then I don't think these are goalies that will bail you out regularly.

TSN has some of the Tree availability up here
"We want to make our team better...we don't know when that will happen" when talking about the trade market potentially being different than the norm (focused around the draft)....well, it certainly didn't happen any time in the last two years...so we're due, right?

Except I don't think any team should ever spend more than $6m on a starter and no more than $8m on a tandem, so it really doesn't affect my pretend GM posts. You're just spreading a current trend as if it is the be all and end all, which it isn't.

He also seems to be injured a lot.

Colorado and Vegas have no chance until they develop their own goalie?

Do I care how a goalie makes saves?
I do not.
The vast majority of saves are simply due to a goalie putting himself in the best percentage place to make the save.

Yes this season we are due no doubt about it. 2 years ago we knew Hamilton was gone and it was a sold hockey trade for both teams. This years first round loss was the 3rd first round exit in 4 years.
This team is going to get a huge shakeup I have no doubt.

The problem with Bishop is he runs hot and cold. You see him get two shutouts in a row and then give up 5 or more a game for a week. I think he is regressing as well. I just think there are better options out there.

I am not big on Bishop mainly because of injuries but this made me laugh. It’s like saying “sure Ovie’s goal total is big but lots of that is due to his great shot”.

Arizona has hired Ryan Jankowski as its new director of amateur scouting... wouldn't be surprised to see Mark wind up there as a free agent if he goes unqualified.

Based on Treiving’s tone today, it’s looking less and less likely that major changes are coming.

Kinda different though. His high danger scoring chance save percentage is poor to mediocre. And the Flames are in the bottom 3rd of the league for giving them up.
It would be like if his shooting percentage is high but he never gets shots off.

Thought on a trade around Derek Ryan for Tyler Johnson?

I’m for it; Tyler Johnson would easily be one of the three best centres the team has employed since Daymond Langkow.

It does feel like there's smoke around a Palmieri deal...
...not suggesting that's necessarily major

Can you offer an explanation why you think so?

It does matter. It just doesn't fit into your opinions.

Why does it matter?
