That shouldn't be that surprising....but it all boils down to what he wants to stay and where BT is comfortable in going with money and/or term.

Great to hear Brodie would like to stay. I just assumed he was gone.

I can see them accepting Erikson, but if so, there won't be any salary retention

ARI is not signing on for 7 years of salary retention

Brodie is 30, turning 31 in June. Last contact AAV of $4,650,400

My guess it would take 5 year at AAV of $6M

That type of contract, for this type of player is not great value in my opinion.

This is a player the Flames should trade his his rights, and walk away.

Cap retention and salary retention are different, no?

Either way, fine. Don't want him then. Better hope Boston does.

I think due to age and draft pedigree he probably does.

Laine is only 22. Scores at a .45 Goal per game clip for his career (37 goal per season average). And is a RFA at the expiry of this contract.

Johnny is 27, only has 2 years of team control left, and is UFA upon expiry.

If you are getting Laine it's going to have to be a ransom IMO. He has his flaws but tough to find guys that are as pure a goalscorer as he is.

Who would you want more in return for in a trade: Tkachuk or Gaudreau? The comparison in trade return for Laine is Tkachuk, not Gaudreau.

This makes all kinds of sense. He plays better with Gio than anyone else he's ever tried, and anywhere he goes will inevitably try to make him play left. Moving is a pain in the ass, especially now. He and his wife have health issues, so they probably have a doc they trust here. He has a 2 year old kid. Treliving gave him his first big contract.

Money talks of course, but IMO, he's not going to sign for a bundle anywhere else. And assuming you can't get Pietrangelo, who is out there that's better at any cheaper? And even if you get AP, is the impact equal to the bigger cap?

Don't forget Karlsson in that mess of contracts, too. Yeesh.

Oh I don’t see it getting up that high. with the flat cap I’m using Jake Gardiners $4 mil as a comparison. Brodie is the better player but still...

5 x $6 is tough to swallow, but I think he signs for less.

I would be perfectly fine with 2 x $6 though

Yeah, IMO he's not taking a paycut, but he's not due for a huge raise either. $4.65 now, I'm guessing $5-5.25M

Brodie is a hard player to baseline, I doubt he will take a pay decrease.

Would he provide the home team a discount?

What is a discount 10% raise, 15% raise etc...

That's really awesome news that Brodie wants to stay - I thought he wanted to leave. That was going to be a big hole for the Flames to fill. I am curious to see what he ends up re-signing for here, and how much room is left with all the existing players that need to be-resigned (like Mangiapane).
