Interesting to see what Vancouver will offer for OEL. The prevailing winds indicate the preferred cap dump of Louie Eriksson, that the Arizona request is a defensive prospect possibly Juolevi, the 2021 first round pick and a secondary prospect such as Kole Lind.

My thoughts on Eriksson are that he has two years left at 6M cap but 4M actual dollars. Also, that he was a very effective player in Boston before immediately becoming a black hole in Vancouver. He was very good in international play last year. The Coyotes are simply not going to compete next year, so this is a warm body for the bottom six, but it's clear that he lost his love for the game in Vancouver. He has negative or zero value due to his contract.

Juolevi is 22 years old, and has been steadily improving each year. A slow progression sure, but the skills that got him drafted so high are still there. A buy low addition. Plus a first and Lind being worth a second.

So essentially 2 firsts and 1 second for OEL, but achieving the primary purpose of saving the owners a boatload of money. Vancouver doesn't part with an essential piece of their current roster, and hold onto their top two prospects.

Whatever.

Oh, I know - that number is a reason they won't do it, is what I'm saying.

So doing some net surfing to try and find out more about this the rumour going right now is that the Canucks are expecting: retained salary and one of Sutter or Eriksson going the other way. Eriksson is actually really appealing to the Coyotes because his cap hit is high but his actual owed dollars is low.

What the Coyotes are expecting is cheap, young players who can play now. So Gaudette, Motte, Virtanen or even a Juolevi.

The length and number of the OEL contract is gross. Legit gross. Anything outside of 50% cap number retained is just a deal breaker for me.

Juolevi's development was severely stalled by injuries.

I don't think Juolevi is on the block. JB has mentioned him playing a regular role next season so..

Rafferty on the other hand is a guy who is cheap and can step in and play right away for the Yotes.

I would give up a lot for Merzlikins. I really mean a lot.

But Korpisalo hasn't really shown any progression since his rookie year.
I would still like Korpisalo, but maybe not for Mangiapane.

I thought Friedman said the Flames were talking to Columbus about goalies, but then it fell apart?

Juolevi may not be on the block, but he can still be moved in the right situation.

i think the pros outweighs the cons in acquiring him.

he's an excellent 2 way puck moving defenceman that is a consistent 40+ point defenceman on offensively challenge Arizona teams. I think he'll flourish playing in our system.

Sutter and or Eriksson are gone this offseason and this means we're also not re-signing Tanev and Stecher that will open up a lot of cap

I agree. You need to decide whether Rafferty and Hoglander is something that you can stomach instead of Lind and Juolevi. A high end piece is going either way, and the way the Canucks are structured it's better to take that hit on the defensive side.

Steinberg just said Brodie’s number 1 priority is staying in Calgary.

Im thinking the exact same. I would begrudgingly send Mangi to Columbus for Merzlikins but not for Korpisalo.

i'd be curious to know some details. The term on a potential Brodie contract still scares me.

They can have one of the Juolevi, Rafferty or Lind; one of Virtanen or Motte; have to take Eriksson; and have to eat the max amount they can of his cap number. No picks.

I am not paying a premium for a player they have to move that has handcuffed their options.

Same might be true for Johnny but the pinch point is already coming.
I think there could be something there with Buffalo to be honest, especially since they got Staal to fill the 2nd line C hole for a steal.

Winnipeg needs RH d-men, could use some forwards, and always like stockpiling picks.

Could see a starting point of something like:

8th Overall
2021 Conditional 1st (Lottery protected)
Ristolainen
Reinhart

for

Laine

If it's 3-4 years for around $5M I'd be okay with it.

Hanifin-Anderson
Giordano - Brodie
Valimaki - Demelo

I could live with that.

Does Laine have that much more value than Johnny?
