Brad Treliving likely still wants to do his hockey deal, so how about,
To Flames: Ryan O'Reilly + Rights to Alex Pietrangelo (signs 8 year contract with Calgary)
To Blues: Noah Hanifin + 2020 2nd round pick (CGY)
*St Louis needs a 2nd this draft.

Based on a 1500 shot against season (the reasoning for that number is it works out to 30 shots against per game for 50 games), this means the difference between a .of .015 is 22.5 goals over their 50 game season.
That was the difference between Vasilevskiy and Mike Smith this past season.

That's almost half a goal per game, which is quite a bit difference in my opinion.
Like you said, the league is close. So 0.5 goals can make the difference.

Not a particularly fair comparison when Johnny is 5 years older.
Laine is still on the rise, Johnny is likely what he is.
Laine would have more trade value based on that alone.
Johnny had one year in the NHL at Laine’s age.

I highly doubt Laine hits 99 points
its certainly debatable if Laine is on the rise

I’m not sure why 99 points is some sort of magic number. Especially for a goal scorer.
The fact is, Johnny undoubtedly has had his career year.
Laine could easily still have his, considering he was just 18 when he broke into the league.

FWIW if your somehow acquiring Laine its not for his overall points.
Guys with his shot are few and far between. Laine is capable of a few 30 -40 goal seasons yet, if someone gets him the puck. Can he play 200 feet? Not sure didn't see him in the qualifying round. I think the "book" is hes not that good a 2 way forward. Still 35 goals and 65-70 pts is just fine.
Think budding Stamkos or Ovechkin like shot but don't forget Ovi had to learn to play 200 foot hockey, before Ovi won a cup.

Yes, but that is the difference between a Vezina candidate and one of the worst starters in the league, so that's about as wide as the gap gets. The difference between Vasilevskiy and Binnington, who many said took a large step back, would just be 1 goal every 6-7 games.

Maybe not, but he scored 36 just last season all while actually knowing how to use his linemates.

Why on earth would St.Louis do this? Are they rebuilding already?

There are certainly some doubts considering it was only last season...anyway if you guys wanna trade Mony and a first for Laine good for you (this is how the convo started)
I think its a bad trade

Pietrangelo linked to Calgary? After the last couple of summers I'll believe it when I see it. I bet they sooner end up bringing Petr Svoboda out of retirement and trading two firsts for Tony DeAngelo.

We'll be linked to Pietrangelo, Markstrom, and Hall right up until they sign elswhere. Then we'll talk about how we were "in on them" and "almost had them". lol

That's a bit rich. I mean Jay Feaster isn't running the team, and this isn't the Oilers telling the guy who wants to come back to sit tight because we're going to land Hossa or Jagr...
Like any team the Flames will inquire if these guys are available and see if there is a fit in Calgary for them that works. The Flames don't exactly have a pile of cap space to work with so it's likely all three will get better offers elsewhere. Outside of Feaster I don't remember any Flames GM thumping his chest about how he's going to make a splash in free agency.
