Gaudreau for Kocecny and picks (I suspect you’d get no first but maybe multiple later picks).
Gio to TO for Kerfoot and picks.

Sign Brody and another D with the salary savings (or maybe try for Sanheim in the Gaudreau trade).

I think trading Gio would be a huge mistake

Depends on the return and the overall strategy. I wouldn’t trade him for OEL. I would trade him to get younger and to acquire assets. I also think, however, that it leaves a hole that needs to be addressed.

If they are rebuilding, or seriously retooling, then sure, move Gio as well and get what you can for him.

But if they are 'adding' to the team (which they no doubt are), then trading Gio leaves a giant hole that would be very difficult to fill.

(and in that scenario, I would bet they would go hard after OEL)

Allegedly the Flames were pretty high on Robertson in that draft so it makes sense they'd take a priority on him.

Booch is one of my favorite current players and he is just coming into his stride now.

And I think Lias Andersson would benefit greatly mentoring under Backlund.

I really wanted to do a Ritter/ Georgiev swap in my deal proposal as well
Rittich <--> Georgiev is interesting

Ya that would be a package I have a hard time seeing on the table. Even if it was expanded to add Gostisbhere and Bennett I could see that getting traction.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking too. I was also targeting Kravtsov in what I was looking at.

NYR: Gaudreau, Rittich
Flames: Andersson, Buchnevich, Kravtsov, Georgiev
Granted I'm not usually great at trade values involving other teams prospects...

Sign Hall. Sign Talbot and run with him and Georgiev. Ryan would need to go to make the cap work. Grab someone cheap as a #3 RD. Will worth it through with more details as N26 requested and post if it makes sense.

Konencny obviously can't score in the playoffs...league figured him out

half joking but can you imagine if Gaudreau had no playoff goals through 2 rounds

1 goal in 22 career playoff games

Draft Pick

I've enjoyed seeing everyones proposals, but I've had a hunch that the NYR would be the team to get Gaudreau, so here is my stab at this.

Trades
To NYR: Gaudreau & Rittich
To CGY: Andersson, Kravtov, Buchnevich, Georgiev
(I suspect draft picks would balance things out but this is the basis)

Ryan to someone (Buffalo?) for a pick to clear cap space.

Flames sign Brodie, Hall, Talbot, and a RD at around $1MM from UFA. Resign Mangiapane and Gawdin as well as Kylington.

I gave Treliving the benefit of the doubt on these signings cause he's proved to be pretty good (except for when he reaches for someone like Brouwer or Neal, which none of these players are).

Signing Georgiev as a back-up /1B to Talbot. At some point during the next 3 years you hope he can take over the net.

Hall ($7850000) – Monahan ($6375000) – Lindholm ($4850000)
Tkachuk ($7000000) – Backlund ($5350000) – Mangiapane ($3250000)
Dube ($778,333) – Bennett ($2550000) - Buchnevich ($3250000)
Lucic ($5250000 – Andersson ($894166) – Reider ($1000000)
Gawdin ($800000)

Giordano ($6750000) – Brodie ($5250000)
Hanifin ($4950000) – Andersson ($4550000)
Valimaki ($894166) Yannick Weber / Other ($1000000)
Kylington ($850000)

Talbot ($3850000)
Georgiev ($1500000)

Expansion:
Forwards: Tkachuck, Monahan, Hall, Lindholm, Dube, Mangiapane, 1 of Buchnevich or Bennett (I feel like Treliving will need to make a deal to protect the other one ans well as Backlund) *Also, I assumed Andersson is exempt due to not playing this year, but I could totally be wrong there???

D: Brodie, Andersson, Hanifin
G: Georgiev

For NYR
Panarin-Zibanejad-Kakko
Gaudreau-Chytil-Kreider
Lafreniere-Howden-Fast
Lemieux-McKegg-Gauthier
$1MM – $1MM

Smith-Trouba
MStaal-Fox
Lindgren-DeAngelo
$1MM

Shesterkin
Rittich

Expansion list (Borrowed from N26 - thanks!)

Forward - Panarin, Zibanejad, Gaudreau, Kreider, Chytil, Howden and 1 of Fast, Lemieux or Gauthier

Defense - Trouba and 2 of Smith, DeAngelo and Lindgren

Goal - Rittich (Their other goalies are exempt)

That’s why I said they’d have to re-sign Brodie (to something close to Gio money) and also pursue one more (suing money saved from Gaudreau).

TK had a few really nice assists though.

New Jersey Trade...

To NJ
LW Gaudreau 6.75

To Calgary
C/LW Pavel Zacha
C/RW Micheal McLeod
RW Fabian Zetterlund
2020 1st Round pick #18

Cap is not a concern for NJ, no need to work any numbers out, this trade is strategically hand picking the most complete set of assets you can get you hands on.

I'll break it down why I selected each player.

Zacha: top 9 winger or center, has an effective shot and under appreciated skating. In my viewings of him he is a smart force cheer who may not lean on opposing players but is tough.to move when he get into corners. He has strength. He needs a teeny bit more polish but I think he fits the Flames game plan of hard to play against.

McLeod:
Fast, forechecks and can provide offense of defense. I am fully aware of other people who don't like him but I think he will be more effective of a player for the team off the scoresheet and moving the yardstick. My aim is more balanced depth.

Fabian Zetterlund:
Speed, excellent skating, smart shot making, excellent hustle on D and puck retrieval. I think he shapes up to be a top 6 RW who plays all situations. I really like his game. 19 points in his 46 games in his 1st AHL season. I think he can impact a Flames roster tomorrow.

Pick#18: Flames pick twice in a row in a really good spot to pluck some fallers or someone the want to take a shot on down their list.

It's not the sexiest trade for Johnny but I feel the one that would have the best outcome down the road, which should also be considered. Sign Hall, you're still all in and overall a much bigger and faster team with more finishing options. I like what it can do for the Flames. A lot.

dammage that is your typical “quality for quantity” trade. That would hurt the organization for years to come.

If they trade Johnny for that type of package, that’s where I actually cancel season tickets and look towards the Kraken as an outlet for my fandom. Hall won’t sign here if he sees we just traded our best offensive player for a random assortment of stuff.

It's extremely unlikely the Flames get a star player back in a deal for Gaudreau. Star for star deals are rare in today's NHL, which is why people still marvel over the Subban for Weber trade four years later.

The Flames will likely get a similar type of package for Gaudreau that the Leafs got for Kessel, the Avs got for Duchene, and the Habs got for Pacioretty: a 2nd/3rd line roster player, a good prospect, a first-round pick. The hope is the prospect or the pick develop into stars.

You give up that second pick in a heart beat to get that deal done. Konecny and Frost is a massive win for the Flames which is why the Flyers wouldn't do it.

That is awful. You trade away your franchise forward for three players that, at best, play on your bottom two lines. That's at best. Frankly, I think that deal gets you a third line center, two career minor leaguers, and a magic bean that might turn into something four or five years from now. So you've traded your top scorer for the third line center at a time when you have a window of opportunity. If that is the best offer on the table, you are better off sitting on Gaudreau until the trade deadline. You'll get similar if not better deals then.
