If so, I want nothing to do with that in the Flames locker room. Don't need that kind of influence with the young team.
Did you quote the wrong post ..?? I Didn’t mention or know of any perceived social media issues with him??

I think those of us okay with acquiring him mean if he is not given a qualifying offer. I would assume if he gets no QO at 1.5m, that he'd sign for 1m ballpark.

That was what I was talking about.

If you want a Rene Bourque type player that takes bad penalties and comes with conditioning issues with off ice distractions, Virtanen is your guy.

Stay away from him. On paper he checks a few boxes. All the tools but no toolbox.

Do Not Want.
A fast David Jones isn’t that bad of a concept for me and Scorpion would be ecstatic. At age 26 Jones scored 27 goals. I think Virtanen improved significantly the last two years.

At $1M with no acquisition cost, I would be interested. The team could use more speed.

Anything more than that though, and it starts to affect their ability to sign more important players (hall, Brodie, whomever), so then it's a pass for me.

If they let Janko go (as I think they might) it’s an easier signing.

I hope Jankowski isn’t back next season. He is tough to watch.

I am already assuming Jankowski is gone, and Virtanen would be replacing a min-salary replacement player, which again, at $1M, I would be all for but I would guess he gets more than that (closer to $2M)

I’m sure he gets more than 1 but I think he won't get 2.

Contracts aside, strictly looking at the player. Would you rather have Lucic or Simmonds on your team.

Lucic hands down, he’s carving out his role for the latter parts of his career now and I like the elements he brought to the team. That said if you could get Wayne Simmonds on a year low AAV show me contract and run Lucic - Dube - Simmonds than why not both??

Lucic.

Still a net-benefit to your roster. Simmonds is not.

Simmonds, like Neal, walked off a cliff play-wise.

The fact that they relied on Lucic for offense later in the series should not have been the case. He's great at his specific role in a playoff situation and made a fan out of me. We just need better top players ahead of him so that he doesn't need to be counted on to do more than what makes him most effective.

I don’t doubt your stats but that should be sending off alarm bells about the state of this team.

Ehhhh. The Flames were basically dead in the middle of the pack defensively this year. 15th in expected goals against/game with 2.31.

With Jankowski on the ice that figure improved to 1.94 xGA/60.

Giordano: 2.07 xGA/60
Lucic: 2.10 xGA/60

Also ranking highly: Andersson, Rieder, Brodie, Frolik, Bennett.

Ranking poorly: Stone, Hamonic, Rinaldo, Monahan, Hanifin, Dube, Gaudreau.
