If the Habs traded Domi for Mangi their GM would need to go into the witness protection program

Mangi has a 13 and a 32 point season under his belt...Domi had 72 last year and has been over 40 points four times

JT Miller? how are they comparable at all

Its pretty common knowledge the Sharks offered him more money...not that they have never signed a bad contract

You mean the guy playing with Backlund and Tkachuk this year has better analytics than Domi who was playing mostly with some combination of Suzuki, Armia, Lekhonen and Drouin? I am utterly shocked,

Miller was re-signed by Tampa Bay to a five year deal in June of 2018. A year before the trade. And I don't think there's anyway Mangiapane gets what Miller got. He had a heck of a run, Miller already 2 50 point seasons and 2 with over 40, and I think was seen as buried a bit in Tampa's incredible depth.

Some Flames fans really, really, reaaaally don't know just how good Mangiapane is and how valuable he is to the Flames.

Disappointing really.

He isn't as good as Domi or Miller...he has 45 career points

What is that worth?

Can we just trade Mangiapane for Miller and call it a day?

Oh, he is a good player, but I dont think hes as good as some Flames fans really really reaaallly pump him up to be.

In my estimation, Mangiapane is found money as a 6th round pick. And he's given the Flames a solid chip at the poker table to make improvements elsewhere.

Id much rather move him and Kylington for a player like Dumba than moving Hanifin, who's younger and at a more weak position (Defense needs to be built around Hanifin, Andersson and Valimaki whereas we have an abundance of LW and LW is and easy position to fill in any market).

Also add in the fact that he almost was a hold out when he had zero negotiating power and you just know this is going straight to arbitration.

My POV is, hes older than Bennett and will get paid, just don't think its the Flames that should do it.

Mangiapane is a more valuable piece than Hanifin. He makes a positive impact every shift he's on the ice, and will continue to get better. 30+ goals is not out of his wheelhouse given his hands, release, instincts, and tenacity.

Uhhhhh. Like to keep on the team? Because if you’re talking value in a trade, you are mistaken.

Miller just completed year one of a 5 year deal he signed with Tampa when the Canucks acquired him. Vancouver didn’t sign that contract they acquired the last 4 years of the deal

The Sabres came in at 5th in Pronman’s organizational rankings.

Dylan Cozens is at 2nd on that list, an elite/high-end bubble player. I won’t share too much because the article is behind a paywall. But Pronman ranks Cozens better than Frost or Patrick from Philly. He’s also ranked above KK and Suzuki from Montreal.

Many ppl, including myself, have said several times that Cozens would be a great target. I think maybe he should be THE #1 target.

Imo flames cannot afford to trade young established players like JG or SM for trades centered around promising young unproven players. Nothing is for certain. Any miss and it sets the franchise back years. They have to be part of a package.

Only reason you move Mangiapane is if he is part of a package for an elite player.

Eichel for Monahan, magiapane, kylington.

If you trade Gaudreau, you get a 1st rounder and Montour/Miller to go with Cozens.

If you trade Monahan, you get Cozens and Miller/Montour.

It’s not just Cozens, but I think he needs to be the centrepiece of the return from Buffalo.

It’s a darn shame it takes at least two teams to “tango”.

I think if the Flames move Monahan and Gaudreau for young pieces and use that cap space on Hall and a top tier goalie then it makes sense.

Monahan+19 for Cozens+8
Gaudreau for Zacha, 7, Smith

Creates just under $10M in cap space. The only thing I see as a major concern is Monahan is not replaced immediately. If there is another deal to be made for Domi or Strome to fill in that top 6 C spot that could help. Zacha is a center but a big downgrade on Monahan.

Having the 7th and 8th picks along with Cozens and Smith would likely add 4 of the top 5 Prospects in the organization

Don't be so sure. Hanifin might be a defenseman but it's looking more and more like 2nd pair is his ceiling. Draft position is already out the window on both players. Mangiapane at times looked like the best player on an elite line this year. His playoff was underwhelming but he was also plauing with Tobias Reider for most of it.

I agree completely. If he can be got with their 1st it's as good as a retool deal as could be expected

Just my opinion,

Hanifin plays a much tougher position, is more talented and is younger.
He is a legit top 4 D at 23 with top pairing upside, which I suspect he will be very shortly.

In short, Hanifin is far more valuable.
