They may be going through similar reactions right now and questioning why their top players didn't show up.

Could be ideal timing to strike a deal with them.
Yes but then why would they even consider trading for Johnny Gaudreau. He’s clearly not their solution. Nobody should be looking here for players who deliver in elimination games LOL

While I agree that's not likely to be the case, there are times when GMs feel someone who has underachieved elsewhere could use a change of scenery. Also, trading one of your core players could be seen as trying to motivate the rest of them. A warning across the bow.

In a flat cap world I find it even more difficult for Couturier to be on the block/considered to be traded.

Couturier was injured, so maybe that further reinforces how valuable he is to them and that they should not trade him...

For what it's worth, I don't see that happening, but if it did I wouldn't be floored either. Hayes, Laughton, Frost, Patrick is pretty deep, even if Patrick can't play.
If we’re thinking of the same thing, it wasn’t a rumour. It was a ‘he said, she said’ thing where a poster said he heard from a relative of one of the owners that there was a deal in place and it fell through because the salaries couldn’t work out. I find this highly suspect. If the Flames were to trade Gaudreau I’m sure the owners would know about it. But, for me, it raises an eyebrow when it the becomes the owner told a relative (why?) and the relative then tells a friend (why?) and then the friend tells the internet (why?).

Let’s keep in mind none of Friedman, LeBrun, CJ, Dregor or MacKenzie or anyone else whose word can be trusted has ever said a word about this. If I’m wrong, I stand corrected. But to me this is just gossip, it’s not a legitimate rumour.

Haydn Fleury is buying a house in Calgary right now.

Told me he does not at all anticipate a trade to the flames, actually thinks he's probably going to be used as fodder for the expansion draft.

It's certainly possible, of course it all boils down to the situation.Lundqvist or OEL seems like the prime candidates, or the rumoured Parise/Ladd deal. Maybe Hjalmarsson or Zajac. Giordano? Or the usual suspects with terrible deals (Eriksson, a bunch of Red Wings, etc.). Weird how many of the above are Swedes.

This isn't a regular off-season. Moving in the summer is one thing...especially if you have school aged kids. Moving is always a hassle, but there can also be a certain fun/excitement aspect to it. That fun/excitement is totally dead at the moment though.

Same might be said for Johnny...although his "friendly" contract would likely be attractive to other GMs
I'm still not convinced you're getting the same or better value back in a Gaudreau trade unless you're scoring sweet picks

If I had to guess, Gaudreau will still be on this roster whenever next season starts and Hall will not be

But the day after?

His signing bonus this coming season is $3.5, meaning the day after it's paid (I assume on day one of the season) he is only $3.25M for the rest of the whole year in real dollars. In other words, Gaudreau is at his most attractive to othert teams this coming season after the b onus is paid and before his NMC kicks in.

It may already be paid.

Signing bonuses are generally on July 1st and the NHL agreed to pay those bonuses for the 20-21 season during the halt.

My guess is we have both Gaudreau and Hall when the season starts but Monahan is gone.

Doubt it.

Who’s playing 1C for the Flames then? Better be a good one if you’re trying to convince Taylor Hall to sign here.

Interesting. Then that makes a trade Gaudreau/sign Hall deal more feasible IMO. Treliving would have had to have done a handshake deal otherwise.

With the strength of JG's NMC, I consider this to be the only year in which he can be feasibly moved for a good return.

Sure. But IMHO they’re more likely to move Giroux than Couturier or Konecny. He has been the constant in years of underachieving in the playoffs.
