Colorado was considerable better than Dallas from the second period on (I missed the first, so I can't comment). Game 7 will obviously be a hard fought game, but I think Colorado takes it. Their best players are better than Dallas'.

If the Stars spent more energy on the game and less energy displaying their incredible poor sportsmanship, they might not be going to game 7.

Its no mystery why so many records are being broken/close to broken lately
These playoffs are like comparing apples and oranges. Nathan MacKinnon is having an amazing playoffs I'm not debating that but if we are going there McDavid had 9 playoff points without making the playoffs
|
But I am NOT going there. Excluding the play-in round and the round robin, MacKinnon now has scored 22 points in 11 playoff games.
You might have an case if his production had slipped from Round 1 to Round 2, but it hasn't: in Round 1 MacKinnon scored 10 points in five games; in Round 2 he has so far scored 12 points in six games. As I pointed out earlier, he has already achieved a better pts/gp average through two rounds than Crosby's impressive runs in 2012 and 2018. I see nothing whatsoever to suggest that this is a fluke—Nate MacKinnon is just that good.

MacKinnon is by far the best player in the game. On the ice to protect the lead, he freaking blocks shots and makes sure he gets that EN goal. All this after taking control of the game.
Honestly, I can't not cheer for him, no matter who he plays for.

Has the PHWA already cast their votes for the Hart Trophy? I don't see how MacKinnon's playoff performance cannot have even an unintended affect on how they vote.

Anything can happen in the playoffs, especially a game 7. Hutchinson might crap the bed. Khudobin might stand on his head. The Avs might take a questionable five minute major in the third period and Dallas proceeds to score four straight goals.
Obviously Colorado has the momentum but Dallas is a good team too. Actually not surprised it’s going the distance — would be hugely disappointing for Dallas if they’re sent packing.

The nominees were announced in July, and since they're just the top three vote-getters, it means the voting is long done.
As for the debate about all these records being broken, we're only in the conference semis. Even if you argue they have an extra round, then they still only played not even three full rounds.
Also, the playoff format used to be division made the playoffs. So even if you were a joke team, you got in if there was a worse joke team in your division. Like Quebec. Remember 16 of 21 made the playoffs. So absolutely the top seeds feasted on absolutely terrible teams that were not even close to a match.

Back when 16 of 21 made the playoffs, there were always 56 point teams in the first round going up against teams like the Oilers. Like in 82-83 Oilers were 11-1 to get to the Stanley Cup and outscored the Flames 35-13 in round 2, and the Blackhawks 25-11 in the Conference finals.
In today's league the spread between the worst team and the best team in my opinion is much closer than it's ever been. What MacKinnon has done in these first 11 games is pretty impressive.
Dallas has been involved in a lot of higher scoring games here which is a real departure for how they were successful for a lot of the season. Will be fun to finally see a game 7.

Great performance in net by a third string goalie. The Stars are really choking here. Love it.

I saw both Perry and Pavelski get pasted (by Zadorov and Makar, respectively) tonight. Mission accomplished.
Still don't like Zadorov after the cheap-shot on Czarnik last year (and hiding from Lucic after), but for that hit on Perry he gained points in my book.
Also, Radulov looks like an old bear with no teeth. Pretty sure that guy has to shave by noon.

He is unreal. My only issue with him has been his temper tantrums on the bench- comes across like a spoiled teenager. He is only 25, might be a maturity thing.

Confidence is a funny thing.
Stars had all the momentum until the first period of game 5, but once the Avalanche were able to shell Bishop you could just see them turn it up a notch and the confidence was back in their game.
Damn shame the coaching and goalies let the Flames down when they were in a similar spot in game 6 last round.

It's amazing how people over think things. Too smart for their own good.
Dobby was 6-1 in his last 7 and had the Stars up 3-1 on the Avs.
"Hey, let's switch goalies"
Great idea dumbass.

Anyone else secretly becoming an Avs fan? #### em totally but they have everything that we want minus an undisputed #1 in net.
Nathan Mackinnon or Cale Makar, I would take either of them.

I will never cheer for a team that purposely tanked as bad as the Avalanche, and did it for years. Even the Oilers never tanked, Oilers just stunk.
Landeskog #2
Mackinnon #1
2017 that would have gotten Avalanche #1 were it not for the Oiler rules got lucky anyways with Makar at #4.
They got where they were because of purposely tanking, a year ago they barely made the playoffs (of course to the chagrin of Flames fans).

Well, the bolded statement just isn't true.
But yes, the Avs did tank. This is a franchise that has had far more success than our own over the last 30 years, yet they were willing to scrape the bottom of the league for 3~ seasons and now look at their trajectory.
Meanwhile us flames fans perpetually get stuck with a team that, as you put it, stinks. We haven't had anything like sustained success, and we don't have the pieces that the avs do. I would take 3 years of incomparable suckage if it meant Mackinnon and Makar on the other end.
