Any chance you think Ottawa would look to trade the 5th for a package of Monahan+ (likely our 1st and something else)
Hometown Ontario kid, good contract and would do well on Ottawa.

Well, I think it's just a fun exercise for posters that aren't as engaged in the playoffs now. I don't see a scenario that has Barkov being traded either but what's the harm in posters doing some window shopping? Lighten up my guy!

Monahan + Valimaki + for Brady. + is probably Gaudreau and retained salary.

Too steep for what Calgary gives up, Ottawa would accept that in heartbeat. Brady is not worth that IMHO

What is this fake NMC you are referring to?
Barkov isn’t moving but it is hilarious because the Flames could say something similar about Monahan. Get this though Florida has been significantly worse as a Franchise than Calgary. Why wouldn’t they make huge moves.

I don't want Brady and that's far too much for just him.. you cant be serious?
Specifically going after #5 for one of the C's in the draft.

Florida is interesting without bringing Barkov or Huberdeau into the conversation. They have Henrik Borgstrom who has been playing in the AHL, but is a 200ft player and way too good for that league. They also have Owen Tippett, who is a big high energy top six RW. Their pick is 12th overall. Florida is about to lose their entire second line to free agency.
I'd trade Monahan and Gawdin to Florida for 12th overall, Tippett and Borgstrom.
New Jersey as a landing spot for Johnny makes sense, for multiple reasons on their side. An elite winger to pair with Hirschier who will sign long term, and is marketable, already on a team friendly deal for two years. I would ask for their 18th and 20th overall picks, and PK Subban at 50% retained for two years.
I would also leave both Subban and Gio unprotected in the expansion draft, while all other new pieces would be exempt from the draft.
Hall - Backlund - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Bennett - Dube
Mangiapane - Borgstrom - Tippett
Lucic - Ryan - Phillips
Hanafin - Andersson
Giordano - Kylington
Valimaki - Subban
Roll the top two lines at equivalent 16 minutes a night, and the bottom 14 minutes a night 5v5 and let special teams make the difference. Roll the defense even minutes and let special teams be the difference.
Draft #12 - Askorov (goaltender)
Draft #18 - Amirov (LW)
Draft #19 - Holloway (C)
Draft #20 - Lapierre (C)
That gives you a competitive entertaining team for the next season, and a quick 'rebuild' with those 4 new faces and Petterson and Pelletier already in the system. The teams that you are trading Sean and Johnny to feel like they both came away with a steal. Everyone is happy, and I could enjoy a season of watching Flames hockey and following all of the prospects.

Gawdin? Does adding him to a trade do anything?

AHL all-star centre to a team without any depth the position. It doesn't move the needle much, but it does move it, for a player who doesn't have much of a future in Calgary.

Thankfully at most only one core player will be traded. Way too much nonsense on this discussion. Gaudreau is the likely one to be moved.
Please don’t overpay for Taylor ‘I never make the playoffs’ hall

I would prefer to keep Mony if possible, but get someone who will push him down to 2C (in a perfect world)

The 2001 Avs but they traded the number 1 pick (Lindros) for the haul of players that won them cup. They had 5 Future hall of famers on that team, Sakic, Forsberg, Blake, Bourque and Roy.
We have some pretty decent depth but straight up we don't have the pedigree to be a champion.
It seems the formula for winning Stanley is to really suck and avoid being one of the forever middling teams which is kind of the defintion of the Flames.
Unless you're Edmonton of course then you just suck forever.
My opinion is to dish both Gaudreau and Monahan. You will never win with them.

That's one of those stats that needs a whole lot of context.
First of all, keep in mind that there are 3 top-3 picks every year and most of those players go on to have pretty long careers. As a result, there are a lot of top-3 picks playing in the NHL every season.
This season, there were 51 top-3 picks in the NHL playing on 26 different teams. There is at least one top-3 pick from every draft since 2001 still playing in the NHL (although, if Bouwmeester is forced to retire, that will no longer be the case for the 2002 draft). Every top-3 pick since 2005, except for Yakupov and Nolan Patrick, played in the NHL this season.
Of the 5 teams without a top-3 pick on their roster, 3 are still playing in the playoffs (Boston, NY Islanders, and Vancouver). The other 2 are Calgary and Detroit. The only top-3 pick on the Vegas roster is Fleury, who only played one game in the first round.
Also, not all of the top-3 picks on those winning rosters were drafted by the team, such as Bouwmeester on the Blues last season. Others weren't big contributors to their team's win, like Seguin with the Bruins in his rookie season.
If you expand it to include the teams that lost the Finals, you get a few more teams that got there without a top-3 pick on their roster, like Boston last season and Nashville a few years ago.

Only way you get that is via the draft. That's why I think the best target for moving Johnny out is New Jersey's 7th Overall Pick - and you should be able to land one of Rossi, Perfetti, Lundell or Jarvis - I'd say Rossi, Perfetti and Jarvis all have a shot at pushing Monahan down the depth chart, not so sure Lundell projects to be a notable improvement on Monahan but he'd certainly add to the depth.

Did Monahan accidentally run over your dog (a la Lionel Hutz) or something?

I think expecting Ottawa to trade either #3 or #5, let alone both, is a pipe dream. It's not about whether the trade is good, it's the money, and having a shot at Byfield and whoever else, are cost-controlled young players.
Yes, the Senators need to hit the cap floor and have actual players, but I think they can probably gain assets by taking on other team's bad contracts to hit that floor. I don't think the Senators feel they need to add talented players to draw in fans. The fan apathy is entirely due to their owner, and it's going to take more than finishing a few higher spots to get them back.
