I mean you can try - why not. And I would add a ton to get him.
I would do Johnny+Tkachuk for Huberdeau+Barkov.
Barkov would be the best centre this team has had since Nieuwy/Gilmour. And by a fair margin.

One thing that speaks for the possibility of trading Barkov for Monahan is that the Panthers are another team spinning its wheels.
I'm not saying it's likely, but it wouldn't shock me if the Panthers thought it's something worth trying. It also wouldn't shock me if Barkov was starting to be really tired of Florida. (Although Barkov doesn't have an NMC surprisingly enough.)
Plus it's Florida. Their management never does anything right

I know, but suggesting that the Jackets would have to add to Dubois to get Monaham deserves at least that.

Who suggested Columbus would need to add?

Yeah that’s not what was said
I don’t disagree with it being unlikely the jackets move Dubois though. But that point was made already and FW came in behind with the snark

Sorry, misread that - I thought it said Monahan for Dubous, Anderson.

WHY do the Flames want to move Gaudreau and Monahan, and does the league share that same perception?
That's the first question to ask yourself in regards to a trade.
The Flames are looking to move Gaudreau and Monahan because they have no real history of success and the flames feel as though they NEED to upgrade on those positions (first line centre and wing).
Knowing that, what is the perceived value for players where their existing team feels they are inadequate for their position on the roster?
If Fleury is paid as a starting goaltender but is available because the team he plays for is making him available because they don't believe he's a starting goaltender, are you prepared to pay starting goaltender prices for his acquisition?
If Marner had the same contract status as Gaudreau, what would the Flames offer for that player?

What would they offer for Marner or what would it take?

Not sure really. Quite a bit though. I think both Marner (at that amount) and John would return a player, a prospect and a pick.

What team are you cheering for and where are they at in their process?
Lots to consider when trading for a player that is in their prime.
For instance a team like Detroit has little to no interest where a team line Buffalo has a ton of interest.
Add more to the scenario or does that weaken the narrative you are looking to portray which I assume Gaudreau doesn’t have much value n

I'd happily settle for trades to acquire Barkov and Merzlikins, while signing Hall.

Barkov may very well be on the 2nd best value contract in the league behind Mackinnon (non-ELC).
Florida wants to cut salary...what do you think we could realistically give them to have them consider moving him?
I don’t think there’s anything we could offer that would have them move Barkov to us.

Yeah Barkov is a dream. Huberdeau and Denisenko though? I'd ld be interested to see where that went.

Janko is a RFA whose not going to get an offer. So you can't use him in a trade. Tyler Toffoli is a right handed UFA this year. I'd try him before I trade assets to acquire a RH-Fwd

Yeah Florida wants to cut salary but both Barkov and Huberdeau are on super team friendly $5.9M contracts.
Doesn't make much sense unfortunately.

You can offer them a package involving Johnny at 50% retained (3.37 AAV). But even then you're probably adding one of Mangiapane/Dube + pick for a player like Barkov.

Why is Florida trading Barkov....
Because he's one season removed from setting the franchise record for most points in a season?
Does Barkov and his NMC accept a trade to...Calgary?
Florida thinks they will be better with Noel Aciari as their top line centre?
CP trying to be HFBoards now?
