I think we could get a lesser secondary asset (2nd rounder or something), but I could see Buffalo jumping at that.
Monahan as a center behind Eichel would look very good for them.

First-line disappearances and big-moment letdowns. Ongoing coaching and goaltending carousels.
Brad Treliving resisted the temptation to crack apart the roster after the Avs’ punch-out. Now it’s hard to imagine the general manager sitting on his hands, flat cap or not.
How could he stand pat?

I don't think the team is on the playoff bubble if they have Zucker and Kadri all year instead of Frolik and Jankowski.
Missing Brodie would have hurt, especially after Valimaki went down before the seasons started, but they could have weathered that.

Kane's speed and tenacity aren't that much greater than Gaudreau's, if at all. The shot - yes.

1. Bring back Darryl Sutter as head coach.
2. Sign a true #1 goaltender.
3. Find a center to play with Tkachuk on the first line.

I think that for this reason, one of Buffalo's RD would be included. They would love to get rid of Risto, but I would rather have Miller and a 2nd instead, if things were to fall that way.

I love Tkachuk but don't get the thought of a $10,000 next contact; don't get the move to 1st line or captaincy. I like him just where he is on the line with Backlund. I am concerned by the concussions.

I get why there is so much admiration for Darryl, from myself as well - he is the best head coach, and only good head coach we've had, in thirty years.
...but yeah, roster and coaching are both very much the issue here. Can't focus in on one or the other. Both need to be addressed.

I wouldn’t mind seeing something like Gaudreau, Monahan to Columbus for Dubois, Anderson as a base for a trade.

Columbus would never do that. Dubois is effectively a new Bergeron.
That dude will be a Jacket for life, so long as he wants to stay.
Drafting Dubois where they did, even though he was primarily a winger going into the draft - that's a GM absolutely nailing draft day.

Not True, Columbus is desperate to help the Flames.
Everyone in the league wants to help Calgary out. They are all willing to give up their better players if it means the Flames might have more success.
The evidence for this is overwhelming.

Kylington could be had for a veteran D like Edler.
Hanifin was offered up for a signed Hall.
Gaudreau very well may be on the block for a top centre like Couturier.
The Flames 2020 1st rounder was in play for Mark Stone and Zucker, but not Välimäki.
|
Hadn't heard that about Bennett. Where did you hear it?
It makes sense though. I'd be looking for a fresh start if I was him too.

Yeah, Hamonic is gone.
Likely TJ and Janko are gone.
Bennett's rumour was simply that he wants more ice time, and he certainly deserves it and more opportunity with skilled players.
Do we know Hanifin was offered for Hall? It was rumoured to be a bit more of a "hockey" trade, so piecing it together Hall could definitely have been in it.
Kylington continually gets passed over by this organization. Every trade deadline he's been here Tree has wasted picks on rental defenceman just to keep Kylington off the ice. I think this is a brutal mistake by the Flames, but that's nothing new for them.
Philly won't move Couturier in a trade. They are looking to add in some final pieces, but they likely won't be subtracting major components to do them.
I doubt the 1st is in play anymore. Flames look primed to land one of Zary, Lapierre or Holloway at 19th overall.

The story or rumour? was from when Jankowski & Bennett were being scratched this past season.

Should have said "report", not rumour - by bad.
Bennett should be rewarded for his playoff play with a top-9 centre position and solid linemates. He's earned it, as well as some PP time. Hopefully the team rewards players appropriately. Hopefully they're honest with themselves about which players will help them moving forward and those that won't.

Most of the problems with this hockey club would be solved by bringing in the right coach. I personally like Laviolette and Gallant, but I wonder why Gallant has such a short shelf-life-doesn't get along with GM's maybe?

Since 1996 only 1 team has won without a top 3 pick on their roster.
The 2001 Avs but they traded the number 1 pick (Lindros) for the haul of players that won them cup. They had 5 Future hall of famers on that team, Sakic, Forsberg, Blake, Bourque and Roy.
We have some pretty decent depth but straight up we don't have the pedigree to be a champion.
It seems the formula for winning Stanley is to really suck and avoid being one of the forever middling teams which is kind of the defintion of the Flames.
Unless you're Edmonton of course then you just suck forever.
My opinion is to dish both Gaudreau and Monahan. You will never win with them.
